Common Problems With Flight Series

Will be purchasing a 2014 Jay Flight 32BHTS in the near future. We will be putting it on a seasonal site for multiple years and have no intention of moving it - in fact we have no tow vehicle so if we did ever have to move it we're either hiring a company or bribing a friend.

Because of this - I anticipate having to do many of the routine maintenance and repairs myself on site. What are some common issues that Jayco is known for? What are some common problems that I should anticipate and be ready to fix myself as needed??

I have a 2012 32 TSBH, which is probably very similar to yours. Never really had any problems. Just take care of the routine maintenance, such as the roof, awning, washing waxing, etc. Mine isn't on a permanent site but is stored at a campground and pulled to a site(by them)when we go down. Because of that I keep an eye on tire pressure as well. Of course you will have to winterize yourself as well. I'm lucky, my dealer is right across the street from the campground. When it comes to needing something like winterizing, they just come over and do it for me. I know they would do the same for any warranty work. I can say, that even though I didn't get the cheapest price on my TT, I do have an excellent working relationship with the dealer!

I cannot think of any problems specific to the Jayflight series.

Initially make sure slides are adjusted right when in and out and make full contact to the walls and seals. I had mine adjusted to get correct alignment. Other then that just normal trim and fit/finish issues. The Jayflight series uses butyl tape under all the exterior trim with the top edges finished in caulking - I'd check all these as I've seen them incomplete or with broken seals.

If you have a manual awning... always close it when you leave or go to bed... Guess how I know this?

I also had to learn the hard and expensive way on my awning. We bought our new 29qbh last May. Used it at a local corps campground 30 nights. Last trip of the season in October, we left for a couple hours, leaves falling, plus sudden rainstorm equals broken roller tube. Then the fun started.

I had 2008 Jay Flight that developed a water leak around front bedroom window, causing the paneling to warp. I removed the window and found that the hole cut for the window was a little large in one corner and over time the window had shifted, causing the rubber seal to pull away slightly in upper corner. I reinstated window using caulking tape around exterior lip and this solved the problem, so check window seal regularly. Delearship recommends recaulking yearly.

Winegard "batwing" antennas are FAMOUS for leaking around the crank handle shaft O-rings .... AND around the little rubber boot that the cable enters into the TT.

Not a "flight" problem exactly, but the flights use them.

I'm thinking of removing mine and using it for target practice.

Jayco must've gotten tired of the boot slipping on my Eagle they zip tied the boot to the connector.

If you live in an area subject to hot sunlight, you might want to consider coating the exterior decals with a product like Aerospace Protectant 303 to protect them from fading and deterioration

X2 Nothing like getting up at 2am to roll up the awning in high winds and rain.

Well, I spent the afternoon re-stringing a few of the pleated window shades in my '11 JayFlight. Those blinds are poorly engineered as there is considerable strain and friction put on the strings when moving the blind up and down and over time they wear out and snap. I was able to pick up a small amount of string at a local home decorating store but will be looking to order an entire roll as this will likely need doing every couple years.

Otherwise the trailer is nice and solid, very few complaints with it. Would recommend that in addition to the routine roof/window caulking maintenance that you also take a peak under the trailer periodically as well. That's when I discovered that the bolts holding the straps for the fresh water tank had rusted out and failed. Was an easy enough fix.

We just bought a 2013 x213 and love it! The only thing I have noticed is we have not stayed at a campground yet that has had a sewer connection low enough to use our bathroom and empty it into the site drain. This has been a problem all summer. When I dump it it is really hard to clean out. Is anyone else having this problem and is there any thing to do about it?
