Considering the Jayco White Hawk 28DSBH

Hi there!

I need a lightweight travel trailer with a queen sized bed and at least two bunks. I'm looking to buy very soon.

I've narrowed my choices to the Jayco White Hawk 28DSBH or the Sunset Trail Super Lite 270BH.

Do any current or past owners have any feedback on the Jayco??

I have no knowledge of the bunkhouse trailers but I really like both of those as you can access the bathroom with the slide in. That's the only thing I don't like about my current trailer is I can't get into the bathroom unless I put the slide out.

The sunset trail has an 80 inch bed, that's one of the main reasons I bought mine. If jayco had an 80 inch bed I'd probably still have one, but I didn't see any jaycos with the 80 inch bed.
74 inch bed always had me feeling wadded up.

Please check our signature to learn what we have. There were two main criteria when purchasing our 'next' trailer: [1] queen bed accessible from both sides and [2] outdoor kitchen. We have an adult son and figured the bunkhouse format would be both good for his/his friends (and a future family). We can easily access the bathroom and kitchen without extending the slide.

We love our TT and wouldn't change a thing - though we did put a full-sized mattress topper on our bed for both comfort and length and it fit perfectly - coming-up against the back of the entertainment center. We also upgraded our tow vehicle since out west we have various mountain ranges with steep/twisty/narrow grades.

Why a 25'? There are length limitations in many State and National Parks ... and more than once our length has made it possible to reserve sites.

We've also been very pleased with both the quality of Jayco and their service, including some warranty work. Since the TT is still under warranty, we are making minimal mods (changing-out sink faucet, shower head, etc.).

We recently sold our 2005 Rockwood 2601 and bought the Jayco 28dsbh right before thanksgiving. We camped in southern Nevada for 5 days during the holiday then parked it for the winter. I think my only complaint is the bedroom doors that we ended up removing. They got in the way more than anything and there is enough privacy from the rest of the trailer with the tv wall. When installed, the doors have to be closed to spin the tv around. Other than that I visit it frequently in my side yard looking forward to spring and our next trip

From my research when looking this past year the 2016 DSBH has an 80" Queen, this began in 2016.

I do not know Sunset Trail Super Lite 270BH, but apart from 28DSBH I was considering Keystone Passport 2810BH. After seeing Kaystone, I decided to buy Jayco, which I like much better.

I am waiting for MY2017 as I will not be able to use the trailer before September.

We absolutely love our 28DSBH. Plenty of room for our family of 4 as well there is tons of storage. Kids love their own full size bunks that are rated for 600#'s and plenty of room for a friend or two. We've been across Canada from coast to coast over the past 2 summers and only problem I had was a cracked kitchen sink which was covered under the 2 year warranty. Last spring I had the wheel bearings repacked and a quick look at the suspension bushings revealed they were worn badly. Jayco came good on covering the labour and taxes and I covered the parts (I went with brass with grease fittings over the nylon bushings).
I am very happy with Jayco as they have stood behind their product. Good luck with your shopping experience.

We loved our WH and only traded up because we wanted a little more space, especially in the bedroom. In the two years we had the WH we had about 80 nights and over 11k miles, with no major issues. There were a couple of minor things (e.g. broken window shade, etc.) that were corrected under warranty, no questions asked.

we bought the 28dsbh last February. absolutely love it. Love the open floor space, big slide, LOTS of storage, double entry for the kids, outside mini fridge


things I wish they would change:
-longer bed!!! Im 6'3". but I manage..I sleep in a ball anyways.


-No ladder for the bunk beds.. need one similar to the Jay Flight 28BHBE


-Shower is too small.....need a walk in shower like the Jay Flight 28BHBE


obviously I liked the Jayflight 28BHBE...but that model on the lot weighed about 7250#. I wanted a trailer around the 6000# mark and the WhiteHawk 28dsbh fit out needs..

Hint - we put a standard queen topper on the queen short bed. Not only is DH much happier with the length, but the bed is softer, standard bedding fits, and we effectively consumed that stupid bit of space between the end of the original mattress and the entertainment center! It is still easy to open the storage box beneath the bed and that space at the foot of the bed podium is great for stashing our computer bags, etc..

You did not say if this is your first RV, but if it is, Buyer Be ware. Someone posted this video a while back, and I think every buyer of a camper/RV should watch this before buying.

I think most campers are manufactured to look very nice, as cheaply as possible (debatable, but you get my point). I think being prepared can help avoid future frustration when issues arise.

I have owned 2 jayco campers. I have a new camper on order now, not a jayco. Mostly because jayco did not have the floor plan we liked...

Our first camper, TT is a 2013 28DSBH, we love it. Put a memory foam topper on the mattress. Our 2 yr old loves the bottom bunk and will move to the top as his little sister will now take over the bottom this summer. We bought it used fall of 2014 and have had zero issues to note. I do like the 2nd door directly into the bathroom. Tows well behind the truck.

Note, I also installed the screen door protector to keep the kid from pushing through the screen, but to this day, I haven't figured out how to re-inforce the latch keeping the door shut =-['

If you're looking for a bunk house check out the Jayflight SLX 287BHSW.
We are very satisfied with ours.
It doesn't have a separate room for the bunks but still provides plenty of privacy.
When we were looking for a TT we had a used TT budget. At $17,500 new the 287BHSW was perfect for us!

I have the 2015 27DSRL and love it. The quality is outstanding and the trailer is well built. I highly recommend Jayco.
