At least you have hot water. That makes things a lot better.

Agreed. It heats slowly, but it heats (I've gotten used to the quicker gas heating).

I found some info online about how to test to see if the board is good, but that may have to wait for next week.

Now you know why a bunch of us would rather just work on our vehicles ourselves, in or out of warranty. Sloppy work by people who will try to fleece you any chance they get.

No thanks!!!

When we bought our new 2014 Jayco Eagle, it came from the factory with several problems that should have been caught. Bad control board on furnace. Hole had to be cut in the wall to take furnace out as no access door. Ceramic igniter had a crack in it and worked some time and some time didn't. Gas lines kinked underneath at junction box disabling gas flow. Not really major stuff, just a pain discovering all this on the road.

At long last, I've finally gotten around to calling the dealer about warranty for the gas portion of the water heater. Based on the repair manual I found and the symptoms and what I've already changed/checked, it's definitely the circuit board that needs replacing.

The circuit board can be ordered on Amazon, but the lower price option (amazon prime for ~$150 or so) is not in stock and says it may take 5-8 weeks to get one. The other options are $200 and up. I've got one on order, but...

So anyway, I asked the dealer if they can check it by appointment because I use my trailer rather frequently these days. They said that it should be ok, but they'd need to photograph the part, send out for warranty approval, then wait for the new part to arrive before putting it in.

It's so dang easy, I just don't want to pay $220 for it.

<sigh> waiting to hear back on an appointment time.

Call the water heater manufacturer and see if they will send you board as a warranty replacement. Sometimes they will because it actually saves them money in that they don't have to pay the dealer an install fee. However, sometimes manufacturers can be a little bit cautious regarding electronic parts as they have no idea of your skill level. It's worth the cost of a phone call and I've had pretty good luck just skipping the dealer altogether.

Regarding the dealers bumbling of the electric element connection. Remember the first rule of troubleshooting, "always look first where you worked last".

Well, I put the new circuit board on the water heater.

Presto! Hot water.

Now to see if I can get reimbursed for it.

The dealer never did call me back.
