Converter Troubles Need Suggestions! 31bhds jayflight

Hello all, first timer here! Had some troubles, everthing worked fine at home get to the rv park at night and plug in and it was sparked at the outlet when i plugged it in. Told my wife to turn to open the slides and she said she herd a pop and notthing happend when she tried to turn on the lights but the pop and the beep of the camper. So i the rv park attended guy tried to hook it up to a battery charger and nothing but the beep. Everything was working but the stuff on the converter and it now makes a high pitch squeal when plugged in. The next morning i went and bought the resetible fuse for the slides and auto. Everthing started to work on the converter battery still makes the noise thought, started charging the battery a little went shopping for a few hours came back and and played around but the battery was going low and high the lights still were dim now an then and i noticed the restible fuse was getting hot. So now i have it home plugged in and still making the noise and not charging the battery and the converter is not working i tried unhooking the battery and it dosent work. yes i checked all fuses and even changed some checked battery water checked all the wires front and back of the fuse pannel i even tried diffrent brakers. Any others suggestions ? I think its the converter where would be a good place to buy a new converter? Thanks for any advice. My Camper is a 2009 Jayco 31bhds jayflight G2.

Being a 2009 you most likely have an IOTA 45 2 stage converter in there. I would upgrade to a 3 stage "smart charger" which will be better on your batteries while storing at home for long periods of time. Probaly going to be best to call IOTA and see if they make a retrofit one that will bolt into your existing power center for ease and security of installation.

Now before doing that you said that you checked all the fuses. Did you check the internal fuses of the converter?

It looks like you did a deep enough check beyond that and it may just be fried. Or a dead short somewhere.

Good practice to get into is turning off all breakers before hooking up in the CG so nothing get's fried again. It takes a few extra minutes but it might save you headaches in the long run.

It sounds like you plugged the trailer into the campground power box without turning the panel breaker off first. Always turn off the breaker on the campground panel before plugging in or unplugging. This will eliminate the sparking you saw.

Regarding the converter, with all external power disconnected, measure the voltage at the battery, then plug the trailer in and measure the battery voltage again. If the battery charging section of the converter is working, the voltage should be higher.

Sounds like you plugged into a badly wired power post.. lots of them around.. that is why I have one of these in my RV and never plug in unless it is plugged in first.
