Copy of registration

Have you ever had to show a copy of your TT registration while on the road?

I realized I didn't have a copy in my TT or TV for a few years....it was in the house the entire time. We visited a few different states in that time but of course, I never get pulled over.

I have never had to show it but as a LEO if you are involved in any type of crash or vandalism incident it will make the process much smoother. I just throw mine in the TV when I renew my plates

We keep a copy in our trailer. Haven't had to produce it having not been pulled over, but there if we do need it. We also keep our dogs shot records in the trailer just in case.

We've never been asked for registration the couple of times we were victims of a fender bender. We've only been asked for proof of insurance. Everything DMV related is computerized and they can easily check if they really need that info. The laws to keep your registration in the car go back to the days before easily accessible databases of that info.

I will not keep any paper work in my vehicles that has my home address on. If they have you vehicle they probably have your garage door opener. And if you keep your registration in the vehicle they can get into your garage and maybe your house if you have an attached garage. We keep proof of insurance in our wallets.

I've never been pulled over while driving but you have to show your RV registration to check-in at some of the county campgrounds here on Long Island.

Think about it this way... have you ever had to show a copy while you were sitting in your living room? There is no reason to have it at home, yet it is required to be surrendered upon demand to a police officer.

In our state, it is a requirement to have it in the vehicle.
Wallet or glove compartment, makes no difference as long as it can be produced if required.

I just did a quick search. This requirement appears to vary by state. In MN and WI it's not required for non-commercial vehicles. Not sure about other states, some of the info I found was not clear. I think at one time pretty much all states required it.

In Illinois they ask for registration, drivers license and insurance.

We went to Canada a few years ago and they asked for our title. When I replied I don't carry it they let us through. On the way back it was have a nice day!

Same here in New Hampshire and also in neighboring Vermont.

I just keep my TT's registration, proof of insurance, and state inspection in the glove box along with the same items for my TV. Just another example of "it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it."

Better question is, why would you not carry it? I've not been stopped by LEO yet, but I still carry my driver's license, insurance with me. Same as my CCW license, never been asked, but the first time I need it, I will have it. What I don't carry is a GDO, in fact, when were gone the garage door is locked closed (from the inside) and the GDO is turned off.

Pdf

I scan the registration and insurance to my laptop as a PDF file. If I need it, I can show them or, if they are Luddites, print a copy on the printer I carry with us. Plus, I don't have to worry about losing them or wondering where I put them for safe keeping. And I keep a backup of the laptop at home just in case.

I keep all paperwork in a CD holder on the visor on the passenger side. Don't like the glove box (way too much stuff in there) PLUS I always appreciated it on a traffic stop when the driver or passenger wasn't digging in the glove box for who knows what.
