Let me preface my remarks by saying I work for Napa auto parts (for 1 more week, then I'm retired) I was considering making the switch to a pair of 6 volt batteries for a while. Doing my research, digging in the catalogs and reading the capacities, etc, I takled to several tech reps for our batteries. Most batteries made in the US are made by 1 of 2 companies, Johnson Controls (Insterstae among others) and East-Penn(Deka and others). Currently, East-Penn supplies Napa with their batteries. That said, I found out when you wire a pair of 12 volt batteries in parallel, the voltage remains the same but the amps double. When wiring a pair of 6 volt batteries in series, the voltage doubles and the amp remain the same. A single group 24 marine battery provides 75 amp hours, 130 minutes at 25 amp draw. A pair wired in parallel those number doubles. A pair of Napa 8146 six volt batteries wired in series provides 235 amps or 396 minutes at 25 amp draw. Since most our our camping is dry boon docking, the choice was easy.
