COVER question again uuuggg

So we camp allot at Copake KOA. Know some people who have seasonal sites. Four with Jaycos purchased from Camping world Kingston. When winterizing there campers the dealer ship told all the Jayco owners at different times not to cover there trailer. The people that have owned other brands have always covered there trailer. They asked me what I would do. I told them I would cover it. I have been covering my camper since 2007 and now I also cover my 2013 Jayco. Why do you think the dealer would tell them not to cover.

Cybical

The Cynic in me says because not covering will lead to their rigs spending more time in the dealers shop for repairs!

Probably concerns over using the wrong material (like a tarp) to cover the rig and rubbing a hole in the rubber. Personally I bought a Carolina Carport and park under it at home. Keeps it out of the weather, no rubbing issues, easy access to the camper and always have dry ground underneath it for loading and unloading.

From my personal experience they say that to save their customers money. In 23 years of owning 2 pop-ups and 2 travel trailers I have never covered any of them. Well that isn't true. The pup that we bought new in '93 had a cover. It was a supposedly "better" Camco cover that shredded in a winter windstorm half way through winter.

The only ill effect I have seen from not covering is faded decals and some oxidization on areas exposed to the sun.

I do cover my wheels (to minimize rust) and my AC unit. Other than that whole covers are a "feel good". Put one on if it makes you comfortable but like an extended warranty, there are better places to put your money.

Strange since our owners manual specifically says to cover it.

Put me down in the "Cover It" camp.

Where I live, most winter days are above freezing with nights well below. The water finds it's way into the most unlikely places and then the ice tears it apart.

Keeping trickles or standing water off of things is a priority from October through April. You should see what usually happens on the North side of my barn/shop in late March!

I am covering mine. think it helps to protect it from the elements when not using it. The sun is a trailers enemy among other thing mother nature throws at them. It gives me piece of mind also. And then best of all at the beginning of camping season its clean. Plus I did not get to see it all winter so it is like a new adventure every time.

I was always told the primary function of wheel covers was to prevent UV damage to the rubber... Same reason, among others, I believe in protecting my rubber roof.

We still do. If I remember correctly, we found an Adco on clearance back in 2012 when we bought it, and that one lasted several years. When it started to look cruddy we bought an S2 Expedition from National RV Covers, and so far it's been holding up well.

I have always covered my campers. I use primarily ADCO covers. I get at least 4 - 5 years out of each cover.

I’m on the fifth year of an Elements All-Climate cover. It’s faded but still in great shape. We’ve had five snowfalls and massive rain and wind just this winter and the TT is clean and dry. Well worth the $250 or so I paid.

Before our Seneca... we had a Class C and a TT. We covered the TT for a couple of years... and thought it would be smart to cover the Class C...

It was one of the most destructive things to happen to that Class C... The wind whipped up and the cover decided to tear at one of the corners. The wind whipped and proceeded to shred that cover, and every gromet it had to hold it down ended up flapping on the fiberglass sidewall of that motorhome leaving all kinds of scars in the outside. All in the short period of 12 hours, it destroyed the outside of our Class C.

The wind whips up at my house pretty good. so I need to tie down the front even more.
This cover is a bit big, my friends had a longer trailer then me
Cover the wheels also. as soon as I park it the wheels get covered up

Trapping in moisture would be my biggest concern.

This is an older thread, but still relevant. I have never put a cover on mine. In the winter, I have found a barn to put my campers into and I do not need a cover. In the summer it sits in my driveway. To me it looks like to much work and personal risk to put a cover on it. Do not want to fall off the TT's roof, nor do I want it to flap in the breeze. Lastly, I want to be able at the last minute, say lets go!
