Crossed polarity

Hi,

I changed my stock battery with a Renogy 100amp battery but pulled a bone head move and crossed polarity. I have a 2024 Jayflight SLX. I replaced a 30 amp fuse that was blown (no other lights on the DC side of the converter indicates that other fuses are blown) and 99.9% of everything now works. However, the refrigerator (Everchill 8.0 CUFT top freezer dual swing) does not work. I pulled the refrigerator out to see if the fuse had blown there. The 15amp fuse was good. I tested the electrical lines that run to the back of the ref. and there is no juice. There has to be another inline fuse somewhere, but where?

I opened the kitchen seat to expose the converter and found that the DC wire for the refrigerator, maybe 14gage is connected to (2) 14gage wires. One that runs to the heater and one that runs to the refrigerator. I know this because a 15 amp fuse is dedicated to both. The heater works just fine. So, in the back of the refrigerator the lines that connect to it are 8gage. Somewhere the 14 and 8 meet. Maybe there is a fuse or shunt there. Any help would be much appreciated.

I don't have a similar setup so hopefully someone that does can provide more specific information.

With that in mind, it would be very uncommon to the point I doubt even Jayco would feed something that needs 8AWG with a 14AWG conductor. I would suspect it is much more likely that 8AWG would be used the entire length although it could be possible that the control board for the fridge is off the 14awg and the compressor has its own 8awg connection however I wouldn't expect that to be the case.

I would start back at the battery and check all possible connections that could support a higher current flow (the 8awg) and as you already stated working your way back from the refrigerator to the power source. Unfortunately I don't have any details other than I would highly doubt that the 14awg wire feeds the 8awg wire. ~CA

You are correct. It is 8AWG. My bad.

Sorry. I clicked send before I meant to. And yes, I wondered why there were two different size wires. What you are saying makes sense. Although, I wonder how the AC and DC power lines both work with the refrigerator? Where do the two meet I guess is where I think the issue is happening.

Hi,

I just wanted to update this in case someone out there crosses their electrical lines on their battery.

What a journey I've been on looking for another fuse that is inline to the refrigerator from ... anywhere ... before or after the controller. After many many hours of searching, and lots of prayer, I've finally found it. As it turns out, it's not a fuse at all, but a 20Amp circuit breaker that is attached to the front of the trailer. After I crossed my battery cables this breaker blew out. These breakers usually have a reset button on the bottom, however, this one blew out so I need to replace it. I've uploaded a photo to show where these breakers are located. In the picture, the refrigerator line is connected to the last breaker on the right for my Jaybird. Hope this helps someone out there. Thanks for reading.
