Did you consider another brand

So I was wondering who else was considering another brand before they purchased there Jayco. And what made you go with purchasing a Jayco. I myself considered a Keystone Couger. Something kept bringing us back to Jayco. I have liked the brand since I started researching them back in 2008. I spoke with many Jayco owners at campgrounds who love them. After you have your first camper you seem to know what you want in your next one. I was looking for one that would last and retain its value. Also having all the features and better build quality we were looking for. So the only choice was the Jayco

I was very close on a Keystone Outback, same floor plan I have now, but the dealer wouldn't budge on any "extras" ie. vent covers, rear ladder. Camping World did so I bought my 2012 Jayco 320 RLDS and to this point, we're glad we did. Better features in our Jayco TT, like a 10 gal. water heater, bigger bathroom, etc.

We had a couple of finalists in our search, Heartland, Crossroads and Jayco.

All three had floorplans that would work for us, Jayco had a better product, better warranty, better price, nuff said !

Wow... I've been with JOF since July 2009, but with all the 'server' changes a search to find my answer to your question in a much earlier thread is coming up empty! LOL

I can't remember the other rv's we considered in Spring 2009 but we looked into rv's and did a 2008 rv show. Economic times had one of our three choices going out of business. Came down to the Keystone Passport (29bhs?) and the Jayco Jay FlightG2 BHS 29bhs (we wanted bunks to accommodate grandkids and we only had a half ton truck).

We went with the Jayco as at that time (Summer 2009), there were many Keystone Customer Support complaints as well as many roof leak complaints with the Keystone....but we had to REALLY dig to find any negatives on Jayco. That, and Jayco had the two year warranty. It gave us the piece of mind knowing that we had an extra year to make sure anything that could go wrong due to 'build' would probably have addressed.

Did we have warranty issues? Yes. Were the dealt with? Yes. Did we have some of those issues dealt with outside of a Jayco dealer? Yes. Jayco is good about having warranty issues assigned to specialist's in the area of which you reside or are near if no Jayco is within driving distance.

Would we buy another Jayco? Yes

Wasn't even looking to buy when we got ours. So I guess the answer would be we were looking at any brand.

Looked heavily at the Crossroads Zinger and a Keystone Sprinter prior to choosing the Jayco. The Keystone was relatively easy to wipe off the list, not as well built as the Crossroads and Jayco for structure and people have mixed comments on the brand. That left the Crossroads and Jayco, I still feel the Crossroads had the better layout (nicer entertainment center with curved wall) but a few things spooked me - Crossroads did away with their 2-Year warranty and an uptick in complaints on the owners forum corresponded with the reduction in warranty (not exactly a confidence booster).

Overall while I'm still lukewarm on the entertainment center and squared off wall, the Jayco offered a better value with the warranty, structure, and the premium features.

For us, we wanted a hybrid and there are not many that make those. Other two things we considered, the jayco brand/2 year warranty, and the layout.

Price was not as much a consideration, given we had so few choices of brands to choose from to begin with. I still think we got a good deal all the way around.

We had a TrailManor 2619 prior to the Eagle 284BHS. Wife loved it, and she towed it around, but it had 2 issues; (1) Tooooooo small for 2 people, 2 dogs and a Blue Fronted Amazon bird. (2) When you are 6'2"+, everything gets in the way of your head. So, the better-half (that is not me) spent about 6 months on the Internet looking at floor plans and settled on the Jayco, we went to the Big Tampa RV Show in January of 2012 and got into the Eagle and decided that the next one would be the Jayco Eagle. Last May we needed to upgrade our TV (Van was dying) so I decided on the Ford F150 - EcoBoost, great selection. We were camping in the Blue Ridge Mountains last summer, and decided to put the TrailManor up for sale and in a week, had it sold. Still can not believe it! We drove up to Indiana and picked up the 2013 Eagle 284BHS, which was only a couple weeks old. Been enjoying it since. Both of us like it, so does my head!

We had several TTs prior to our current 5er, none of which was a Jayco. None were outstanding, most were just OK. Sold our last TT after dragging it from VA out to Wyoming and back. When we started shopping for the current unit, did extensive research on construction materials and methods, as well as owner reviews and experiences. After about a month of research, Jayco really began to stand out in these catagories. Not just on JOF, but other sites as well. After another month or so of checking, decision was made on Jayco as the only choice. Then found our current Designer 5er and bought it. After owning it for a little while, we feel we made the right decision, and if we ever need to buy another, it WILL be a Jayco.

Zinger by Crossroads but found it would really be pushing our TVs capacity also checked out Ameri-lites models but the quality just wasn't there. Started to research into the Jayco lines and was sold.

Wow so it looks like everyone researched some other brands before going with the BEST. The feeling my wife and I get just walking in our Eagle is like wow this thing feels like its built like a tank. We really only been in it three times and that includes our walk threw. When we went looking at other brands going around with the salesmen. My wife would be looking at the inside with the sales person and I would be crawling all over the outside. The sales people would always ask me what are you doing. I would always tell them I'm comparing it to how a Jayco is built. Then they would always bring up price point, so I would ask them then show me what you have comparable to the Jayco Eagle. Few times could they do that. A nice second I thought was the Keystone Couger, amoungst 1 or 2 other brands but Jayco always seemed to beat them out. Almost actually heavily considered a KZ spree they came out with the same floor plan as the 314 bds and the dealer is like 4 miles from my house. But little differences with the Eagle we liked ,so we made the trip to Albany RV.

We looked at a used Keystone Cougar and Outback. Very similar layouts, but no outdoor kitchen. Loved the white cabinets in Outback. Both were in great shape, but I could tell a smoker had used them. I have an allergy to cigarettes and perfumes and migraines weren't worth saving some money, so hubby agreed that we'd only look at new because I'd just find something to nit-pick about! We did look at smaller Jayco's at our dealer and kept coming back to our current one. Very happy!

We have the Eagle 334rbts but we did consider 3 other brands with the same floor plan first. Had a chance to buy a new Zinger for cheap but it was stick and tin and sort of cheap inside. Then I tried the Tracer. Looked great on the outside but cheap inside. Then the Kodiak which looked a little better than the tracer on the inside. Then we looked at jayco eagle and it was obvious that the interior was better than all the other ones. And the 2nd a/c, table and chairs, etc... Easy choice.

I am an extensive internet shopper but put very little into the "best TT" opinions... I researched bunkhouses and found they all have pretty much the same floorplan so it came down to asking a few friends that are campers (longer than I). Most all said the slide was a great feature but we have to keep the weight down on our older Suburban 6.5. We looked at a 261 BH Shadow Cruiser because of the light weight but couldn't justify the extra cost. Considered a Forest River Salem Cruise Lite 261BHXL that was loaded with power everything and priced right but kept coming back to the 26BH for the warranty and double over double bunk. Just felt right getting what we would utilize and had what we wanted. Maybe the harder decision was over the 264BH or 26BH - we figured long term ownership, the 26BH had a few things that made it worth it to us.
Cheers,
OceanGuy

Jayco was actually my 3rd choice. My first choice and first RV was a Gulf Stream Ameri-Lite. It was a great trouble free unit and was looking to upgrade to another one. But the local dealer went out of business and the closes one was 4 hours away. My second choice was a Coachman, but could not come to a good price with the local dealer. Ended up getting the Jayco. Has been a good unit, but not sure I would get another.

We looked at Keystone Springdale and Forest River Cherokee trailers. The Cherokee didn't really speak to us, and definitely seemed lower quality than the Jayco. Springdale was comparable construction, but didn't have the model we wanted in stock as we were shopping the end of model year sales. The 2-year warranty helped give Jayco the nod. There seem to be plenty of happy Jay Flight owners out there, and few complaints. Jayco seems to source quality appliances and hardware all around.

The fit and finish weren't the best, but it's nice to have the extra year of warranty to shake out the bugs. We would definitely start with Jayco when looking again.

I did extensive research when looking to upgrade from our popup. We were advised by a couple RV friends to skip the hybrids and look at travel trailers, as most seem to end up going from a hybrid to a travel trailer eventually anyways. Our first choice was actually a Rockwood 2306..... .... It had a good floorplan and met all of our requirements. So we went to a local dealer last spring who had this model in stock. My excitement quickly turned to disappointment the moment I walked in and saw the wood coloured stickers peeling off the Murphy beds frame on this brand new unit. REALLY?? The Murphy bed is the focal point and best feature on this trailer and they can't even use real wood, or at least a quality alternative! I was so disappointed, I actually gave up my search altogether and stayed in the popup for another summer. Good thing, as we decided that a hybrid is actually the right style for us, and the materials used in the Jaycos sealed the deal.
The X23B really is perfect for us.....Thank you Rockwood!
