Dirt bike carrying

Hey there!

I currently have a jayco 24rbs (2020) and have a question regarding carring loads on the back. My travel trailer came equipped with a factory hitch receiver and the manual says the load limit is 300 lbs. my dirt bike and carrier weigh about 290. Has anyone ever placed a dirt bike and carrier on the back of their tt?

I think it will hold it fine, but I’ve read adding weight to the back can affect handling pretty bad. My trailer is a dual axle and the weight concerns I read were with a single axle. Any thoughts? Why would jayco say it’s ok up to 300 lbs if you can’t actually do it.

Thanks!!

You just need to adjust your WHD.

Humor me here….it’s my first camper and I’m still pretty green. In order to adjust for the added weight on the back, would I just need to adjust the number of links on the chains of my wdh? So I currently lock in at the 3rd link. So maybe go up to link 4 or 5? Or is there another way to adjust?

No, you may want to go to 2, you don't want to take the weight off the tongue. If the front is too light it will cause sway.

So loosen the chains instead of tightening them?

Before you do anything else, please take the time to visit a CAT or other certified scale to verify not only your current overall weight, but also your specific tongue weight, axle weights, etc.

CAT Scale how to: https://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f...v-tt-3871.html

Also, please take a look at some of the videos in this thread. I can't make your decision for you. But, I would be very cautions about hanging something as heavy as a dirt bike off the back of a conventional travel trailer. That much weight to the extreme rear has the potential to drastically reduce tongue weight and possibly create a sway situation.
