Do Jayco Engineers even think???
Had some time today so I went "Exploring" my 28BHBE. Took off all the panels I could find, tightened a bunch of things I found loose and found access to some other areas, in case problems arise. But when I got to the rear storage area I was dumbfounded.
I was looking for a suitable location to mount my Progressive Industries EMS and when I located the junction box it was directly below the feed valve for my water heater. It is so close that you can not even turn the valve making it useless.
I will be eliminating the box with the EMS anyway, but it made me wonder what they were thinking when they designed and or built this camper.

Yeah and if that springs a leak it sprays right onto that junction box!

What is an EMS box?
Out here, EMS stands for Emergency Medical Service , the local ambulances...
I dont suppose you are adding a tiny little ambulance to your RV?
Just wondering...
But to answer your question: I suppose that this is what happens when something is made by committee. The Water heater folks didn't talk to the electric committee folks.
It sure would be nice if Jayco actually had people in these forums to answer questions.

EMS. Is Electrical Management System. It's basically a surge suppressor on steroids. Watches for over / under voltage, dropped ground / neutral etc...
And I agree it would be great to have Jayco reps here...

This is not a new idea. My father (RIP) owned a Buick/Pontiac/Land Rover dealership back in the 60's. I clearly remember on the mechanics time clock machine someone posted a picture/joke about how the engineers had intentionally made performing some maintenance item intentionally difficult.
Bless those old mechanics for their life-long advice to me as a teen.

My 2015 didn't have a j-box back there. Wire ran straight from inlet to power panel. I removed the cable at the power inlet and added a new section going from power inlet to the EMS. That way could put it back original if I sold. I agree, what you have was not well thought out for sure.

I have said for many years that a design engineer should not be allowed to release anything for production unless he/she had been in the field working on like products for at least 5 years. This is ANYTHING, not just RV's. Without this in the field experience they have no clue what they are doing.

Production shortcuts/cost reduction will always trump common sense and safety. That is just the way corporate mentality works.
All manufacturers have this same mind set. They know these things happen. Until the cost of law suits and warranty repairs sufficiently erode the bottom line it will not change.
I do believe the people that design these RV's do not use them. If they did they would be laid out differently.

hmmm, I wonder what the response would be if you called Jayco, while you had them on the phone, sent the photo I really would like to know what response they give you for something stupid like that?

Seems like any worker there would need to be a camper also. The location of that box could be moved a foot or so at the installers discretion if he knew the problems it could cause.

I bet they would say they will cover the repair under warranty. Then you will have to call your dealer to make an appointment 4 weeks out. Once you arrive 4 weeks later it will take 3-5 days, at the least, for them to look at it. Then another week for the "repair". Then you can have your trailer back. LOL

This is my plan. I don't expect much but I do want to hear what they have to say. I'm sure it will be along the lines of bring it in to a dealer and we will move the box. We all know how that will turn out, 6 weeks later I may see my camper again. Its an easy fix, it just boggled my mind that someone would find that an acceptable location for an electric box...
I've turned wrenches my entire life as both a second job and as a hobbyist. I've seen designs in vehicles that were plain stupid and couldn't be fixed. At least this one is easy...

It's not just Trailers, a friend once had a small Chevy with a V6 where you had to lift the motor to change the rear two spark plugs!

I still have one of those. It is the 3600 series V6. 2000 Malibu. I managed to change the plugs once in 200k without tilting the motor. My hands and arms were really torn up. So I never changed them again.
