Question Does my generator have enough?

I have a 6000 running watts and 8250 startup watts generator. It has a 30 amp 120/240 v plug, which we bought a pigtail for. Mine's in storage and can't check the A/C, Heater, Water Heater specs.

Any help greatly appreciated

JAYCO uses a 5500 watt Onan in the FWs. You should be good to go.

Watts is fine. How about the noise level? Anything above 60db is going to make for unhappy neighbors. But if you are out in the sticks boondocking that won't matter.

Typically the water heater is about 1500 watts. Refrigerator is 200 - 400 watts.

However, when running on a generator you usually want anything that will run on propane to use that. Like the refrigerator and water heater.

For lifting heavy objects harbor freight has a truck bed lift that will pick up to 1000 lbs. I bought one as my back just wont do it any more.. so it should lift his genny very easily.

What type of pigtail would you use for that 240V plug? Something that only grabs one leg of it?

My understanding of the 240V pigtail is that it is only wired on 1 leg. I needed the pigtail to get my power cord plugged in. The generator will put out 120/240 based on your plug/draw. From what I have read.

If it is truly a 240V Gen, you will have 240V between the two hots, and 120 between each hot and neutral. The ONLY thing that should vary based on the "draw" of the trailer, is current, or Amps. The Voltage will either be 240 or 120 depending on how your plug is configured.

Thanks Tim, my understanding is the plug is what determines 120 or 240 V, thanks for making this more clear. I would hate to fry my appliances with 240 V!!

here is a link to the pigtail I bought:

Thats a big gen and the issue of noise has already been raised. The other issue running something like this is the fuel consumption. I had a 4500w Colman with a 5 gallon top tank like most contractor style gens. It was called an extended run unit, but I found that I was lucky to get 8 hours run time with only a 50 or 60% load. Ok to run for short periods but these gens get mighty pricey real quick.

As for the noise, yeah it's loud, I only plan on using it on a hunting trip where no campgrounds are available. I may be able to get power, so not sure I'll even take it. We just want to be able to use it if I need to. We have the generator and I'm not going to get another one unless we really start going to places that don't have electric and we need one to charge our battery, which I don't see my wife allowing.
The information shared is great! One of the smartest forums I'm on. Thank you all!
