Door Damage

We had some very strong winds here overnight and this morning. Trailer was shaking all night from the wind (no drafts inside though, so happy with that). I went to step outside though this morning and the wind grabbed the door and ripped it out of my hands almost pulling me out the trailer with it. It hit the bump stop and made a small hole in the fiberglass.

I was thinking I could rivet a small square of aluminium or stainless steel over the area including where the door holder is and then rivet the door hold back in it's previous location. It would protect the door from future damage and look like it was made that way. Would there be any reason this wouldn't work? Or is there an easier way to fix this while still making the color match?

I would suggest glueing the aluminum or stainless to the area instead ... they have 2 part glue out there in the automotive industry that is super strong and will not leave you with excess holes in your trailer for possible intrusion of water if it was me I would go with stainless .... much easier to keep nice looking

oh and before you go to drill those rivits out take a punch and drive the center pin out ... I believe it is almost impossible to drill them otherwise

The paint dept. at Lowes or Home Depot will carry a 2 part epoxy that comes in a roll (think pigs in a blanket). The one made specifically for plastic & fiberglass dries to a whitish color that's pretty close to Jayco's white. Clean the area with alcohol, pull off a plug of the epoxy, knead it together until it's all one color, then force it into the hole and press it smooth with the sidewall. I used it to repair a hole in the rear wall of my trailer that I put there returning from my very first outing. (Don't ask how.)
