Drain valve question

We have had our 2017 29RKS for about six weeks. We have camped for three weekends. The past two weekends when setting up, when I remove the drain cover, a small amount of water (maybe 8-12 oz) pours out onto the ground. All Tee valves are closed. Is this normal?

If the side of the trailer with the drain valve was tipped way up, I guess that some fluid could be kept past the valves but did not go down the drain. Other than that, it seems like either one of the valves was not closed all the way, or one of the valves is leaking even when closed.

Most of my trailers over the years have a small bit of leakage even when valves closed, I've replaced valves only to have the same issue again in a short time.

It might be particles that get stuck in the valve itself .i just learned to live with it.

For what ever reason, sometimes ours has a little water at the cap. We replaced it with a clear one, so if there's anything in the pipe, we can see it first before removing it.

Always seems to be like 1/4 or half a cup in there, i agree it seems crazy. I never thought it to be black, usually looks like shower water.

I cup the hose underneath it but agree a clear cap is a great idea, searching.

This is one version Clearview Waste Valve Cap - Valterra T1020CLR - Sewer Fittings & Adapters - Camping World and there's one with a gray water hose connection, also.

I always seemed to have water in the cap to some degree.
Maybe it's just full P-Traps that spill over during transit down the grey and any residual water in the toilet bowl.
Even residual water in a shower line that didn't break vacuum until transit and then drained....

This seems to make sense....at least this early in the morning prior to coffee.

I got tired of the 'surprises' when I removed the cap so I installed a Valterra waste valve just before the cap. Valtera has both a twist on and a glue on model. They are about $20 on Amazon. I installed a glue on and now there are no more surprises because I can open the cap, put on a hose and then open the Valterra valve.

The clear cap is a great idea. I replaced mine with one with a hose fitting and I remove the small hose cap first while holding the hose or a bucket under it to catch anything that snuck past the seals. It's almost always grey water, but it can smell just as bad as the black water.

If I had that clear cap I would have had a warning and could have put a bucket under the hose fitting and let it out slowly.

I never have seen the glue on model. I know a few who leave their twist on in place and have a drop of cement to hold it in place.

Here it is: I prefer the twist on.

I know. Camping is suppose to be an adventure. I wouldn't have put one on, but had a darn coupon from CW. Couldn't find anything else to buy, and DW thought it was a terrific idea. Don't ask her why.

Here's the twist on model that eliminates the extra amount of leakage when removing the sewer cap. The other benefit to this add-on valve is that if you leave this valve closed, you can open both gray tank valves, effectively making one large gray tank. This is beneficial because the shower water gray tank fills much quicker than the kitchen tank.
