dual propane system on 2015 WhiteHawk

So this summer while on the road we woke to the odor of propane. Checked the tanks and everything seemed okay. Have a dual tank system that had never been switched over but both tanks were empty. Got them refilled and discovered that one of the pigtails had developed a leak. Anyone else have this issue? Seems weird for a nearly new two year old hose to fail. Just order two replacement pigtails, in case the other hose decides to go too.

YES! One of our pigtails had a serious leak and the other a 'minor' leak (if there is such a thing as a minor a propane leak). The dealer replaced them both under warranty.

I smelled the leaking propane when I was outside so it wasn't a rude awakening like yours.

BTW, the tanks are always covered and it wasn't the hose itself that leaked. The leaks were at a 'washer' that is squeezed between the fitting and the hose ferrule.

One of the hoses went bad on my WhiteHawk on our second trip. The o-ring had failed on the swivel point where the brass is crimped to the hose. They replaced both hoses and the regulator.

Propane leak and new pigtail too small

2016 WH 28DSBH
I think I found the solution if your new LP pigtail is too small for your old regulator.....read on.

I have a Cavagna auto changeover regulator (model 924N). The pigtails were leaking. The rubber washers on the Type "1" coupler end were cracking, one side worse than the other. I removed both.

Replacements by the same company didn't fit, had smaller ends!! They were "Cavagna (50-A-190-0032) 12" Acme LP Pigtail with Hangtag" on Amazon.

I looked at the current Cavagna regulator on the web and saw that it has 2 brass fittings added to the 2 outlets. (see pic)

Went to HomeDepot to try to find a coupler like what I noticed, but no luck. I tried the size template Home Depot had and concluded that the old pigtail (the regulator end) fit 1/4" COMPRESSED; the new pigtail fit the 1/4" FLARE. Could order 2 couplers but not certain want to order.

More digging on this and I found a link to Amazon for this:"Camco 59953 Propane Fitting - 1/4" Male NPT x 1/4" Female Inverted Flare" $7.39 with free shipping if you have Amazon Prime. After reading several of the customer reviews, like the one below I'm providing , I am pretty sure I have found my solution.

One of several convincing Amazon Customer Reviews for the Camco 59953: "I needed to replace the pigtail hose on my tent trailer which has the standard regulator with an NPT fitting. Since most of the hoses on Amazon seemed to be Inverted Flare, I decided to just get this adapter. Now I could get the cheaper pigtail and be covered. Also, in the future if I need to replace the pigtail, it won't matter which one I get!"

Learned that Compressed must also mean NPT. Hope this helps another RV owner with the problem.

The leak is at the crimped o-ring joint Behind the threaded connection. It’s very common and I wish they would come up with something better, because this design sucks. Seems you keep the tank valves open (constant pressure) they work fine, but valve the tanks off, they like to leak the first time you open the tanks.

I'm wondering why I don't just change to a different brand. There are other manufacturers. May check into that.
