Dual regulator into single regulator?

I have a 2016 174bh and I am thinking about adding a second propane tank. I would like to use a dual regulator with an auto changeover like this one:

Amazon

My question is, what do I do with the regulator on the trailer now? Can I just hook up the dual regulator into the single? Should I bypass it altogether? I'm not sure I want to take it off because I don't want to have to plug the holes and I'd rather just leave it.

You will be REPLACING the original regulator with the new one. You can sell or store the original. They cannot be used together.

OK so since the one I'm looking at getting mounts to the tanks, I'm just going to bypass the original and leave it attached to the trailer. Thanks!

Why can't you just remove the old single and mount the new dual in the same place?

The pigtails from regulator to bottles are not long enough. The dual regulator is meant to mount to the bottle holder. The current one is mounted on the trailer under the front window. I don't really want to remove the current one because it will leave holes in the trailer to fill. I guess I could do a custom second hose from the second bottle to the regulator. It's only a 5' hose and an Acme nut. I'll have to see what the mount for the regulator looks like when I get home and see if can be swapped. In that case I would probably go with a different changeover regulator and not the whole kit. Now I've got some thinking to do

You need a bottle holder like this one, then the regulator mounts to the rod.

Un thread the old regulator, set it a side. Attatch new regulator, you need thread dope or yellow Teflon tape (gas rated) on the threads. It's really easy to do. You should be able to YouTube it.

Yup I have that one and the link in my original post is for a regulator that would attach to the rod. However, if you read my last post the current regulator is mounted to the trailer under the front window. I can't just swap the regulator. The kits for the rod mounted regulator have 12" pigtails.

So my options are to replace the existing regulator in its current location and make a new hose for the second bottle to this location or to get the kit I linked to which moves the regulator to the bottle and bypass the current regulator.

If you mount the new regulator to the "bottle rod", will you have enough hose to go from the trailer to the new regulator? There is usually a little slack in the existing hose. If you get lucky it will be long enough. Otherwise you'll have to extend that.

I was looking at this last night and I don't think I'll have enough slack. My regulator is mounted pretty high so I do think I have more slack than most would, but I'm also planning on moving the bottles forward a little so that I can mount a tongue box behind it. I'm definitely going to have to extend the hose.

I think you can just purchase a longer hose or maybe have a local propane supplier make one up for you.

Maybe instead of leaving the old regulator in place you can simply remove it an reinstall the screws to plug the holes?

Yeah I wasn't all that worried about extending the hose and fittings. I'll have to check and see how it's mounted again. I think it might be easier to just leave it than to try and take it off. If I remember correctly there's a significant amount of caulking around it.
