Dump Container/pan for accidental discharge or leaks

I watched an accidental discharge of grey water this weekend. It occurred to me that this could have been sewage. Does anyone use a "catch pan" or a container underneath the dump tank connections to catch "waste."

I also have noticed that when pulling into camp sites that there are some where the area is totally dry and others where there are large wet areas. I would like to think that the large wet areas are a responsible camper washing away any accidental waste. Searched the forum and haven't seen this one covered.

I have not heard of catch pans being used, but some could be using them. Sometimes in non hookup sites that large wet spot is where they dumped their grey tank when no one was looking lol. Not proper, but it does happen.

I would guess that in many cases, this is the previous camper simply emptying the remaining water in their fresh water tank before departing for the trip home.

I put a 5 gal. bucket underneath the pipe cap before opening to connect a hose. Had a small seep leak once from a valve, opened it, and surprise! Never again.

Before actually pulling on a valve to release anything after the hose is connected, I always pull the gray tank valve first for a little test to check for leaks along the exit path.

I've been down this same road. Wasn't fun. For almost a year, I've dealt with it with a Valterra cap and valve that fits on the end. It's at the dealer getting fixed now(in theory), but even then I'll put the Valterra back on.

I started carrying a small bucket after removing the cap and finding some seepage issues one time.

I always do a washout/washdown of my hose and dump area when breaking down at the end of a trip, so I'm one of the ones responsible for those large wet spots. I would never dump onto the ground in a campground site though.

I use termination cap with a hose fitting on it. Prior to removing the cap and installing the waste hose to the camper. I hold the waste hose under the cap and remove the hose connection cap, to see if there is any leakage. If not I remove the termination cap and install the waste hose and let it do its thing
