Eagle vs Eagle HT Travel Trailers

Hello, new to the forum and Jayco!

I recently put down a deposit for a new Eagle 324BHTS travel trailer. My dealer notified me that it would end up being a 2017 instead of 2016 and sent me a list of the updates and new options. It looks like some nice upgrades.

The strange part is now the Eagle 324BHTS is an Eagle HT 324BHTS. He said Jayco previously had Eagle Super Lite and Eagle travel trailers but ended up moving the Super Lite trailers under the same Eagle name. Now they are moving some of the Eagle travel trailers into the Eagle HT designation such as the 324BHTS but they are still basically the same trailer as the 2016.

Does this make sense? Are the level of materials going to be the same as 2016 or are things going to be lightened up to meet this HT (Half-ton) designation?

I'm waiting to hear from Jayco but if anyone could shed some light on this I'd appreciate it! Thanks.

Hoping to pick up the same TT soon. Purchased from RV1, said it would done late March hoping a bit it might be a 2017. Have to drive from SW VT. to Indiana to pick it up but the savings was a big plus then going through the dealer in Albany.

Is that really what Ht stands for? They will have to cut a lot of weight to make that trailer actually half ton towable.

Congratulations the Eagle and welcome to the JOF.

Hearing from Jayco is the only way you come close to having an answer. My money (not literally) is on that the change is being driven by marketing; not significant physical changes to the unit. Hopefully you'll get a better answer from Jayco.

The only thing that I've noticed is most of the ht models have smaller sized fresh water tanks than the regular fifth wheels if that's important to you

I would be careful with the HT trailer when you ordered an Eagle. To make it lighter, the materials HAVE to be lighter and thinner! Go in a Jay Flight SLX and a regular Jay flight and you can feel and hear the difference in materials...just open the cabinet doors! I would want to see and feel the new one before signing any papers just to make sure it is what you ordered. Don't trust the salesman 100%...they don't want to lose a sale.

When we bought, we looked closely at Eagles and HTs. We ended up with a HT as we liked the layout best. As for materials and everything they appeared and felt to be built pretty much the same. Looking at specs, the HT really isn't much lighter if at all compared with the Eagle if you compare the larger HT vs the smaller Eagle. The specs do show smaller holding tanks and less weight capacities though indicating light axles.

Thanks for the replies.

I too was surprised that they would sell a trailer with a GVWR of 11k targeted at the half ton market. Dealer says they go by dry weight and noted the new Fords with 12.2k tow ratings. It looks like the 2016 Eagles with a dry weight of 8.6k and below are now moving to Eagle HT and the 2016 Eagles with dry weights above 9k are staying Eagle with two new models being added.

Hopefully it is just a marketing move as none of the floor plans of the 2017 Eagles work for us anyway. I'll let you know what I find out.

Is any of the new 2017 specs or layouts posted anywhere yet? I didn't see them on the Jayco website.

Yup. Just marketing. Even though it is BS.

I had a '14 Ram 1500. Ram played up the 11200 lb tow rating. they don't tell you that is a stripped down two wheel drive regular cab. A fully optioned 4x4 crew cab like mine had like a 7200 lb tow rating. I do believe with the right set up it still would have pulled a 10k trailer without much difficulty but you really start running into some grey areas that I'm not comfortable with. On the other hand, there are lots of people running half tons pulling big trailers so it's no surprise Jayco is marketing to them.

The marketing works there's no doubt. I bought a "half tone towable" trailer without doing my research. Completely ignorant about axle weights and GVWR of the truck. Never having towed a TT I didn't realize how big a difference it was to a dump trailer.
