electric awning won't operate

My electric awning won't open or close unless I fidget with the motor side and this at best gets intermittent results. This is the second drive I have had. Is there an issue if they are slightly out of alignment. Seems there is a very small tolerance for them to work.

Check the wire connections at each end..., and also check the wire run within the awning arm for any binding at the joints.
