I just bought a new Jayco Travel Trailer and I am wanting to buy a electric tongue jack for it. Anybody have any recommendations?

So I just looked at amazon searching "electric tongue jack"
bout a dozen $99 to $200+
what weight do I need to be looking for? I have a 264bhw SLX
500 # tongue wt.
The Barker doesn't show up there but found it under "power/leveling jacls"
Lots more dough. If one of the $100 jacks would be ok i'm ordering tonight.
edumacate me please!

You get what you pay for. If you buy the inexpensive one, it would be best to set a bucket on it upside down to keep out the weather. Also, buy one with an LED light built in.

You have to remember you're not just lifting up the tongue of the trailer, but also a lot of the weight of the rear of your TV if you're hooking up a WDH. The general recommendation is a jack with a minimum 3,500 lbs.

Barker. Made in USA and probably one of the best. I've always ditched the stock for a VIP3500. Skip the Lippert and no names. Get a good one the first time.

It really matters what you have for a camper. For example I have an htt, with a folding front bunk. Some electric jacks are to tall to allow the bunk to fold down.
If you have a wdh, and use the lift the hooked tongue method to apply the bars you need a beefed lift.

Another vote for the made in Michigan BARKER. Used one for 7 years with no issues. Reputed to have very good customer service as well.

You need a more powerful tongue jack if you plan to lift the back of the tv to connect the wdh bars. If you do not have a wdh, and only want an easy lift the tongue off the ball, a weaker electric jack would be fine.

The dealer replaced my OEM failed light duty one on my TT with a Atwood 3500 lb under warranty. This one is much quicker and reliable

I'v been using the Husky HB4500 4500 lbs. Brute Power Jack for several years and I've been very pleased. Works great lifting the rear end of my TV to connect the WHD bars. It has 3 LED lights for hitching up in the dark, and simple to install.

sorry to derail thread slightly, but I have not heard of using the tongue jack to lift up the rear of the TV in order to connect the WHD bars. Is that done when you are applying so much tension on the bars you cannot connect them using the pipe alone?

I do it everytime. I have not used the tool on our 2012, except once to figure out how.
I do believe the tool/pipe can be faster. However, I believe using the tool can be more dangerous as the bars are under tension, and a opps moment could break a bone.

Installed an Atwood 4K lb Robofoot model on our last trailer. Worked great, 5yr warranty if I remember right though that may be different now. About $250 ordered from E-Trailer.
As mentioned, you do get what you pay for.
Good luck deciding!

A lot of us that are towing near our max weights with WDH's, like the Equalizer, and others... there is no way on earth I'd (and I dare say we'd) ever get the spring bars on their brackets without using the jack. It takes a lot of tension on those bars to achieve the desired weight balance and jacking up the back of the truck is the easiest, and recommended approach for elevating them into position. I've never actually raised the back wheels of my truck off the ground, but I've come close.
I don't use that little crow bar thingie that came with the hitch unless I run out of travel on the jack and I still can't get the bars on.

I do it every time. Like Jagiven, I used the tool once to see how it worked.
