Electric tongue jack

Hi everyone,
My electric tongue jack doesn't seem to work off the battery. It only works when the 7 pin is hooked up to the car or when then the camperbis hooked up to the house.

I would assume when I unhook the 7 pin from the vehicle that the battery should power the electric jack? But it doesn't. Just had my battery tested at auto parts and the battery is good and it was reading full even before I had it tested.

Any advice? Also trailer and battery are brand new. Picked up the camper last wednesday

You'll have to check out how your Power jack is wired. May be it is missing the wire to the battery. It also can be a bad ground to the chassis etc.

Do the other 12V accessories in your trailer work?

Check the lights and the water pump...they are 12V...do they work?

If not, you might have a blown inline fuse at the battery. It is a 30Amp automotive fuse.

The tongue jack has 1 wire coming off of it, and it should go directly to the battery positive terminal.

Mine has a fuse just for the jack in the front, in line fuse.

Your base flange that has 3 bolts attaching your jack to the tongue is your ground. Should be 3 toothed washers under each bolt. Make sure the mounting surface is clean from debris or rust.

If the jack only works when connected to the TV it has to be the battery, if the fuse had blown the jack would not work no matter what since there is only one wire going to the jack and it will have no power. Get a meter on your battery and check the voltage.

Is the jack wired directly to the battery post?
My guess would be a corroded connection right at the post, creating a high resistance.

It's the fuse near the jack. I had the exact same problem.

Same as WWT, my fuse was blown, the connection from the TV worked, but as soon as I disconnected, no jack power.

I'm surprised the jack doesn't draw more amperage than the 7 pin can provide resulting in a blown fuse in the TV.

My thought is that his jack is spliced in after the inline 30A fuse that protects the entire trailer.

So if the trailer is plugged in the inverter which charges the battery is supplying 12V to the jack because it is on the other side of the 30A fuse.

If the tow vehicle is plugged in, its the same as the inverter it's on the 'RV side' of the 30A fuse.

The only time the jack doesn't work is when it's on the battery alone, which would make me think that none of the 12V items are working off the battery, because the 30A fuse has gone POOF.

Hi, so I had the battery checked and is is fine. It reads a full charge even on my camper monitor reading; however, unless the campwebis plugged into the house via the 30 amp or the camper is hooked up to my vehicle, the battery doesn't seem to work any lights and anything for that matter including the jack.
Maybe blown 30 amp fuse then?

FYI the in-line 30a fuse from the tongue jack is designed to keep the tongue jack motor from burning out in the off chance the motor power button is depressed despite the jack being fully retracted. It becomes the kill switch. I keep extra fuses nearby just for those occasional moments when I space out during the process because I am tired, cold, wet, and/or stressed from any number of issues with traffic, other campers, family, dogs loose (yours or mine), etc. I find keeping the spare fuses next to cold beer very therapeutic.
