FALSE. Many people incorrectly believe this. The trailer breaker will trip if you have a short in the trailer.

The only time the pedestal breaker should trip is if you have a short in the cable itself....not the trailer circuits. I guarantee if the cable does have a short that 50 amp break WILL trip instantly.

The first time I went to a campground from my home base after I started full time 6.5 years ago the park only had 30 amp sites available. It was in January and I was heating with a couple of electric heaters including my electric fireplace. I didn't think about the water heater which I normally run on electric when hooked up. Yep, you guessed it, I tripped the park's 30 amp breaker. Time to remember to put the water heater on propane in the winter when on 30 amp systems. Nothing was hurt except my ego. I thought I had thought of everything. Ha

We had a couple of 30a rigs and experienced the same thing. On the last one, I had a mod that allowed me to run the wh off a separate feed from the cg post if they had a 15a plug. It worked very well.

When it was not available, we just used it on gas for power management.
