emergency exit windows....why are there screens?
Hello, first post here. My wife and I recently purchased our first TT, a 2009 Jayflight G2 29' bunkhouse. We LOVE it so far. There are a couple of windows which are apparently designated emergency exit windows and can't be opened regularly (I guess unless I'm missing something). My question is, why are there screens on these windows? Thanks! Great forum by the way.

On ours (assume they are all similar ) you open the windows and the red plastic part of the handle will hook in the open position to give you air flow

emergency exit windows....why are there screens?
now that someone's mentioned this, how about the other emergency window in the living area? there is one without a screen. Can this one be opened and used as a window?

The short answer is "to keep out the bugs". Windows are made to open by just pushing the handle and setting it on the bracket at the bottom. Screen pulls out if you have to use the window as an emergency exit.

In an emergency a screen is not going to keep me inside the trailer.

One thing to remember about the emergency window: if it's open, be sure to close and lock it if you're going to be away for any appreciable length of time. While it's big enough for people to climb out of, it's also big enough for someone to climb inside. As for the screen, it pulls (or pushes) right out. Ours has a handle on it.

One thing to keep in mind with these windows is they had a recall on the locking mechanism. If the bar locks from the underside of the latch than be aware that the window has the possibility to open unintentionally. They changed the newer ones to lock on the top side of the latch.

Funny thing, the one in the BR has a screen, but behind the couch on the slide out doesn't? I asked the dealer to see about getting one.....no dice. The only thing that bugs me is the small gaps in the seal (probably for drainage) will let in those pesky "no see ums".

We have a 2014 jay flight swift 28RBS and we have tried to open emergency window and cannot get it to open. My husband has pushed on handle with as much force as he can without bending it. Did you get yours open?

Not sure if the design has changed, but there is a long bar at the bottom of the window. Grab the end, I think it's red, give it a wiggle and it pops free from its simple mount that secures the window closed. Once free, rotate the bar so it's perpendicular to the original position, then push the handle and out goes the window.

I use them all the time, as others said push it out and lock the bar. But I was told during PDI since these are escape Windows if pushed out beyond a certain point the top will release and they will fall to the ground. Never tested it though, lol. I suppose the screen would have to be removed to push it that far.

We couldn't get ours open in the front bedroom the other day when cleaning. The window seal was really stuck to the glass. We kept spraying the inside glass and seal area with windex and we finally got it opened. Then cleaned and wipe some silicone on the seal.

Thank you we were able to get the long bar with red end free but did not rotate it just started pushing on it. We will see if we can rotate it and hopefully it will open so we can get some air in the bedroom.

I agree and their the only windows I can leave open in the rain. I just make sure their closed when were gone away so nobody can break in.

Make sure you release the handle so that it swings straight out before try to open the window. Mine is always stuck at the beginning of every season. The seal sticks to the frame and I always say I going spray something on it but never have yet.

On my fifth wheel it feels like it is 20-feet up in the air when you look out of the windows.
I was thinking I would probably have to go get the ladder setup before I used my emergency exit window hehe...
