Equalizer hitch

I have a Jayco 32 TSBH that we towed with a 2019 F 150 twin turbo crew cab truck. I now have a 2022 350 Lariat SRW truck with 18 inch wheels. The old truck had a 2 inch receiver and the new one is 2 1/2 inches. I know that I can put an adaptor in the receiver, but my problem is the old shank does not have any extra holes and with the 2 inches of extra truck height, I am not sure that I can crank the trailer up high enough to get it on the truck. So, do I buy a new 2 1/2 inch 12,000 lb. equalizer hitch or buy a 2 inch shank that has enough holes to drop the ball down to a better height?

Put a block of wood 4x4 under the drop leg and then lift?

Personally, I would recommend you buy a new drop shank.

With the new TV, you will need to reconfigure your hitch setup, as the new 3500's rear suspension is so much heavier than the Ford's. I suspect you will need to transfer less weight to the front.

X2. New hitch may not give you the drop to get the trailer level behind you given increased load capabilities and height. Buy the drop which is cheaper and can get the trailer level in the back with several drop options so you can go as far as you need. It can also be used for other trailers IF you wanted to go through the hassle of taking the EQ on and off.

Even if you bought a new EQ, you may still end up at the wrong height.

If it were me, I would buy a new shank for the 2 1/2" receiver with the required drop. Shanks come in all different configurations so it should be too hard to figure out which one you need. I had to replace my shank with one that had a larger drop and a different length for my Suburban due to the hitch configuration.

First thing you need to figure out is how much additional drop you need and then check out sites like E-Trailer to choose your appropriate shank. It has been my experience that you do not necessarily need to stick with a manufacturer, most shanks will cross over to different brands. Just make sure of all the dimensions and you should be fine.

X2

I purchased a new 2 1/2" shank that was designed to accept my existing 2" Reese WDH Ball Mount.

Also, using the OEM supplied 2" adapter will reduce the 2 1/2" receiver weight ratings.

I just upgraded to a 33RBTS which is a bit heavier than my 28BHBE - I towed the old camper with a 2 1/2 to 2 inch adapter but wasn't comfortable. I ordered a 2 1/2inch Equalizer shank from RVupgrades.com for about $150. I am much happier now and its easier than trying to hold the adapter in place while trying to line the hitch pin up.

I recently upgrade my TV and now have the 2 1/2" receiver. Have an adapter, but would prefer upgrading the shank.

Current shank is the 2" Curt 3214, which has extra length - I think 3-4" more than the standard shanks. I like this since I can open my tailgate with plenty of clearance.

Does anyone have recommendations on a 2 1/2" shank with extra length, that takes 2" weight distribution system (Reese dual cam)?

Thanks,
Scott

I went with a Curt #17128, 2 1/2", with a 2" drop/6" rise....., and I have a Reese 2" WDH Dual Cam (1,500lb rating).

I don't have any tailgate clearance/interference issues with my TV/TT combination. My TT has a bottom-mount coupler.
