Estimating weight?

I know that the best way to get all the correct numbers would be to go to the scales. Here's my issue;

I had the TT delivered to my house. As this is my first camper, I don't have a WD hitch (yet). In order to buy one, I need to know the weights, so I get the correct one. In order to know the weights, I need to get it to the scales (about 25 miles away) with it loaded. And to make things even better, I haven't even stocked the TT yet with dishes, coffee maker etc.

How in the world do I get the right hitch?

this is the actual yellow sticker on my 2014 32bhds what you will want to look at is the loaded gross weight. As for the WDH I went with a reese dual cam 1200/12000 set up and it works great. Hope this helps.

Your trailer should have its own sticker, of course.

A additional estimate is to take the trailer loaded gross weight and multiply by 0.15 (15%) for the estimated tongue weight. Generally, tongue weights should be in the 12 to 15% range but not less that 10%.

There are lots of posts regarding WDH on this site. Use the 'search' function and you'll find lots of interesting material out there.

When you load up the storage underneath and the wardrobes in the bedroom your tongue weight is going to climb quite a bit over the posted 840#. I'd go with 1200# bars myself, but a thousand should work too.

I would take the weight on the sticker and add 600-1000# for your stuff. Roughly 15% of that will be your expected tongue weight. A visit to the CAT Scale with just your TV will give you your Rear GAW. If that plus the expected tongue weight is more than the Rear GAWR (from your TV sticker) then you may be over weight.

Thanks for the replies. After reading and reading some more, and talking to the folks at the dealership's service department, I went with the Equal-i-zer 12k. I also did some measuring and got the 9' drop shank and a set of Ride-Rite air bags for my truck. I also tow a 40' GN Big Tex trailer from time to time and I had been contemplating air bags anyway.
Can't wait for everything to get here.
