Exhaust fan Upgrade

I have a 174BH and in the bathroom it has the regular vent with out an exhaust fan. It is easy enough to get power to it for a 12v fan but question is the size of the fan??

The inside dimension of the trim ring on my vent is 13"x13"

I was looking at some of the Vortex fans on ebay. Most of them have no dimensions. I have found a few fans that were listed as 14x14 and another that was over 17x17.

So is there a fan that will fit my 13x13 vent?

The cutout for the vent is usually the same for all RV's. The opening will fit all styles of vents, as well as most roof mounted AC's. I think if you removed your trim pieces you would find your opening to be 14X14"

I found the Vortex 2 had a size listed at 13.5 x 13.5. Not sure why some of the others I found were listed different. I was originally thinking they were all the same.

Just installed a VortexII today in our Jay Feather 7. Like you I was confused on the size, but found out that the openings are standard size and the Vortex fit right in without a problem.

If you choose the Vortex it's handy to have a third hand to hold the fan in place while you screw it into place. I ended up tie wrapping the fan to the metal crossbar so I could screw the fan in place.

Wife is happy, so I'm happy!

Best,
Steve

I installed a single speed Vortex in the bathroom of our 195RB and a multi-speed w/reverse in the main vent. The P/N's are listed below if you wanted confirmation of which units should fit:

Single-speed - # 90043-CR
Multi-speed - # 90046-CR

I concur with GarlicDude on the third hand, or some other way to hold the fan up while completing the wiring and fastening it into place. All in all a fairly easy upgrade and we've been happy with the increased air flow for sure.

X3 on the Vortex fitting just fine. And after 1/2 hour of fussing (read bad language) requested spousal help.

Putting roof vent covers to keep out rain and leaves is also a great and relatively easy and cheap mods.

We have a 154BH Baja, and had the dealer install a Fantastic Fan in the bathroom vent. They tapped into the 12volt power source of the adjacent LED light. We then installed (I did it myself) a MaxAir Fanmate vent cover, which fits standard 14" x 14" vent covers. Just completed our first trip in this trailer and I cannot exaggerate the difference in airflow with the Fantastic Fan.

That is what I did, fished a wire from that light over to the vent. My wife really like it when I told her I ordered the fan and I do think it will be nice to have one in there.

I like the idea of the MaxxAir vent cover. Might have to look into one of those soon.

I opted, when I bought my Jay Flight 23RB, to have the dealer replace the, so called, exhaust fan that is located in the rear bathroom with a Maxx Air Deluxe fan.

I knew I was going to upgrade the fan than came with the trailer, so had it done when I bought it. The Maxx Air Deluxe comes with a lid that provides an vent cover so it can be operated when it's raining outside.

I did make one mistake. I got a model that did not have remote controls. Unfortunately, the height of the Jay Flight ceilings now make it impossible for DW to open/close and even switch it on/off. She has to stand on a step stool. I even have to stretch out my now 5' 8" frame as far as I can to do the same.

If I had a do over, I'd have gotten the remote control model.
