First Hookup to Shore Power
Hello. Just having 30 amp outlet installed for shore power for Jay Flight G2 29RLS TT. I think I read that before I plug in for the first time I should cut the main breaker in the trailer, plug in, then turn breaker back to on. Is that what you would advise? Do you do that every time you plug in anew to shore power?

Yes! I definitely specified 30 amp 120v. Appreciate the caution.

I've never done that. And yes, I knew it was/is the "proper" procedure.

I've always made sure the main breaker at the outside box is off before I plug in. After secure, then turn on. I've never turned off main breaker in the RV.

With the 30A service in the X23B I just shoved it in. Most of the time the breaker seemed to be on in the pedestal. With the 50A in our 5th I find the pedestal breaker off most of the time and I turn the house breaker off as well. Not sure why I changed my procedure but I did.

absolutely make sure when it is wired up it is 120 Volts NOT 240 Volts (single breaker not two breakers). If it is connected to 240V you will fry all the electronics in the TT. I have heard many many stories of electricians wiring it up wrong.
I too turn off the breaker at the pedistal, then plug in, then turn it on.

I do use a surge protector on the shore power cord. On my previous TT (R-Vision Trail Lite 230 BH), every time I plugged it in it would blow various circuit breakers (never the same ones each time). With the Jayco WH 27DSRL, we trip the circuit protector, plug it in and reset the circuit protector. I know we should trip the main breakers, but have not had an issue yet.

In over 45 years of camping, first popup in 1970, first hardside..Shasta..soon after, several more hard sides, then first new motor home in 1981, 82 33 ft Southwind and numerous diesel pushers and fivers thru the years and now I'm trying the Jayco bumper pull....I've never used a surge protector nor have I ever noticed anyone using one.

X2 - I do the exact same thing. I've never had the RV breaker off.

Here is the story to go along with the pic:
Our test unit has been easy to use, and has performed seamlessly at several hookup sites. And if you're still worried about lightning, we saw a local RV shop that had the used 30-amp Surge Guard shown below on display. The unit had been struck by lightning, taking a catastrophic blast that melted the case and caused it to explode. The coach that it was attached to suffered no significant electrical damage. - See more at: http://www.decisivemagazine.com/hidd....9rS8g8dW.dpuf.
Seems to me the surge protector did its job.

I'm not saying they don't work. I've just never seen or used one on a RV. I don't have one on my home and don't know of anyone that has one on their house, and I don't know of any elect codes that require them on houses or RVs.
If it makes you feel safer go for it. What about lighting rods mounted on the Camper as well and grounded to the ground.
Maybe Canadian elect providers have issues that are not in America?

I do not use one either texas, but I am not going to try to discourage someone from using it by posting a pic of a fried protector.
I do have my elctronics at home plugged into a surge protector.

I don't recall ever noticing a pole mounted surge suppressor either. My 30A was the pole-mount type but when we got the 5th I bought a hard-wire version. It has a remote display that shows Leg 1/2 volts, amps, the freq and any errors it detects. After plugging in and flipping on the pole breakers I watch the display until I see it cycle thru its messages before flipping the house breakers. The remote display and power center are within arms reach while leaning in thru the doorway. Makes me feel better, and that's what it's all about.
