Flash Flooding

We were camping this weekend in Gettysburg PA, and the campground we were at had it's creek flash flood. We all got out safe, but had to leave the Jayco. When we returned yesterday, the water line was only a few inches below our floor. Question is, the water was into our enclosed insulated underbelly. Has anybody ever had this happen? What should I do about it?

This was at Gettysburg Campground. The staff there is great and made sure everyone got out safe. The owner, Robert Adams, even risked his life to get people out and had to be rescued by Fire Department boats. I have stayed there many times and love this place and will be back.

I am glad all are safe. I have read a few posts where others have removed some sections of the enclosed underbelly to allow water to come out.

Open the basement doors, remove everything.. put some fans down there to help dry it out...
Pull the wheels and check the hubs and brakes for water damage.
and as someone has said open the enclosed underbelly to let all the water out and help with drying.

Does your insurance cover such an event? I would think it might be worth taking it to a dealer and have them do a complete wheel job and pull the underbelly to look for damage.

If it got up as high as you describe, you could have water in the heating ducts or even some that wicked up the walls and could cause mold. The quicker you can get it checked out the better.

We are really lucky, the water didn't reach the insulation. I did open the access panels for the slide motors and have a leaf blower running. Should solve any problem.

Removed a lot of debris from wheels and suspension and I checked to make sure I had brakes before I left the campground. They have an on site RV repair shop. Brakes seemed fine, so I brought her home. It pulled just fine.

I'll pull the wheel and see how they look later, might have the RV dealer that stores it for us look over the entire suspension/axle/brakes.

However, before we left for the weekend we discovered someone had cutoff and stolen our power cord. The dealer replaced it for free, but looking into ways to prevent this. Thinking about an outlet like some 50 amp Fifth Wheelers have with an extension cord to plug into it. They are also stealing batteries around here so that is coming off every time I store it.

You know...that is pretty dog gone low to take a mans power cord! You have to be pretty desperate I guess. Heck around here that is a quick way to get shot dead and have it hurt the whole time you are dying!

Dope is real bad in your area. The crack heads and heroin addicts are scrapping anything not bolted down. The copper in the power line is what there after. They scrap it for the copper which is at the highest per pound in a long time...

Yeah, I hate thieves. The best part is I store my TT next to a Fifth Wheel that is the County Sheriffs Office Command Post. They have no trouble when it's parked in the lot. It was used by the Sheriffs Dept Saturday Night, that when I was hit.

They are very brazen around here, cutting the cord off campers parked in peoples driveways.

Glad to hear everyone is OK. Sorry about the power cord, hope everything checks out in your camper. I work for a utility company and just today we got a briefing from our security department in our weekly safety meeting about someone braking into substations and stealing copper. This is becoming a weekly thing.

The nice thing about a 50amp cord is that they can just unplug it. It is quicker for them and easier for you to replace. God I hate dopers.
