Flexible Sewer Hose Support

Hey guys and gals, I was at Camping World today looking at these support for the sewer hose but notice that they had different length, I seen 15',20' and 25' what are you guys and gals going with?

I going to a rv resort the first of Nov and see that they have sewer hookup setup their at the rv location pad, will a 20' work for what I need? Thank you for your reply.

I have a 20' sewer hose so I bought a 20' hose support. It's come in handy several times when the sewer hookup is several inches off the ground.

I have never had a sewer hose support since it seems like it is just something else to carry around. When I have had a sewer connection that is a little high I just walk the hose contents to the connection after dumping black and flushing with gray. Nothing else to carry around and works for me.

I have one that I purchased several years ago and other than the first trip or two it never gets used. It was a PITA to setup and collapsed frequently. I'm sure there are better ones but when I looked around the only people using them were those that were staying a long time.

If I were you, I would not purchase one until you camp a few times and see all the other options that are available.

Yeah, I think that's a good ideal to wait, I just hate to go out and find out that I wish I had one but I will hold off for now. Thanks for all of your advice, and if I was going to stay a while it might be worth while.

You might want to verify whether the RV resort you are planning on staying at requires that sewer hoses be off the ground. Some RV parks have that rule.

My neighbor claims that some parks require them. I haven't seen this yet myself. I bought one the same length as my hose, but have never had a reason to use it. It's still sitting brand new in the packaging. The more simple I can keep the sewer related stuff, the better.

We stayed in a park not far from the Grand Canyon that said the county required them. They said, too, that the county checked frequently and would ticket anyone not using them. All of the units we saw with connected sewer hoses used them.

We did not have one so we'd connect to the sewer about every three days at dusk, dump, then disconnect and stow the hose. We didn't have a problem.

We will be staying at one site for a while next season so plan to buy/make one when we know the how long the sewer hose needs to be.

I think they are much more popular with seasonal or long term campers. If you are a mobile camper they are unnecessary for a dump station, and probably a pain to setup. I have actually yet to see anyone pull one out at a dump station, but we haven't ever camped in spots with full-hookups.

I have one and use it if we are staying at a full hookup site long enough to dump more than once. I prefer not to walk stuff through the hose, I'd rather have it slope down rather than risk having it pull apart. But I too have never used or seen one used at a dump station. Good luck.

Big1,

If you're referring to the accordion style sewer hose supports, I vote to skip it!!! Yes, I bought one. My reasoning is that when you stretch it out to support the hose, the sewer hose sags inbetween each support. Which then requires one to "walk" the the hose to dump the contents. Maybe I did something wrong setting it up the couple times I used it, but that is my experience.

Not sure if you have done the 5" fence post sleeve mod for the sewer hos, but if so, buy a couple 4" u shaped gutters. Cut one to fit just inside the fence post sleeve, cut the other the same length but also cut it in half. Now you have a solid hose support. Or buy one of the extendable gutter attachments that go on the bottom of the downspout. Smaller to store, but can extend out. Couple blocks to support the gutter, and you're all set!!!

I have one for this very same reason. I have 20 ft hose, so I have 20 ft support. I use mine when I want to keep the hose off the ground, or when I need it to maintain a slope.

I won't say it's completely useless, but I'm sure I could live quite comfortably without it. I got it as a gift. I don't know that I've ever been somewhere it was "required". If it was, I didn't know about it.

I made some with split 4" thin wall PVC. Stored in rear bumper.

Used a 4 inch PVC plastic rain gutter some years ago. Cut it to just under 8 feet and it slid right into the 4 inch bumper and the poo hose slides on top of it. No rust or rough spots to compromise your hose's integrity.

When camped, just slide it out and use as Norty has in his photo above. I used extra snap blocks and 2 bys for supports.

Bought my first when the fifth was new. Hard plastic, with each of the supports hinged to the next with molded plastic hinges. The hinges broke in several areas by the end of the first season, making it useless. Went without until I ended up at a CG that required them. At a local RV store, found one that seemed poorly made - supports were a hard rubber like material, and they were stapled together along alternating edges rather than hinged. But it was what there was, and I needed something. Surprisingly, it has lasted for 3 seasons, and is much easier to setup/stow than the hard plastic one was.
