If I fold mine away from the door it hits the arm for the awning and so it won't lay flat. I wrap a paper towel around it before I close it and that works fine.

Guess I'm lucky, when I fold mine across door it rides on the plastic on the lock so it doesn't rub door or paint.

X2. When folded away from the door there is no problem with it rubbing.
