Found a problem today...

I was crawling around under my new Eagle HT today looking for any area accessible to mice and found a problem. Someone got a bit crazy with the impact wrench when installing the electric stabilizer jacks. Three of the four bolts were stressed beyond the breaking point on the left front stabilizer. The other three stabilizers had all intact, tapped them with hammers to verify. Not worth a trip back to the dealer for this, I'll just put some grade 8 bolts that I have in the shop in their place. Just a heads up to others to check theirs. You can see rust on the broken surfaces, so they have been broken since installation. Hard to spot, check with a hammer and a cold chisel because they could be only partially broken.

This is a great example of why you need to inspect every part of your rig. When I got mine home the first thing I did was jack it up and pull each wheel I found 1 bearing so tight you could barely turn it, and 1 with nearly no grease in it at all. Then I opened every access panel and saw what was inside, checked every water connection for tightness and finally crawled underneath to check everything there.

Unfortunately, too many just sign and go. Especially with the recent surge in sales...

I did check but the stabilizer was in the down position and the joint was tight. It was only when I had them up that I spotted the gap. I plan on checking my bearings next week. The bearings on my pontoon trailer went out 5 months after purchasing a couple years ago. Pulled them off and they had a of spoon full of grease in them. So far though I have found little wrong with the new Jayco.

It is strange you should mention this. I have purchased 3 boat trailers 2 race car trailers and 3 travel trailers and everyone had at least 1 wheel bearing loose. Now the trailer MFG buys them with the hubs and drums from the axle mfg. but, come on guys give me a break.

And even then stuff isn't done right. On both my old '03 and current '13 I had to adjust the brakes after I bought them. On my '13 one was locking up, the other 3 weren't even grabbing.

I will add that I swapped out the OEM bearings with Timkens even before our first trip.
