Fresh water fill--how?

I would like to get some advice on filling our freshwater tank. DW and I are headed out for the inaugural run FINALLY (after taking delivery on 7/28, dealer finally finished everything needed on the warranty 'punch list') and will be dry camping at a National Forest Campground. Drinking water is available.

How does water get from the spout (usually not a threaded spigot) to the tank? Is it just a matter of getting some water jugs and pouring it in manually? With an 86 gal freshwater tank capacity, that seems like a boatload of trips back and forth coupled with a lot of lifting. I'll need a vacation from my weekend!

Camco water filters come with a flexible hose protector. You won't need this item if you use a 90 degree hose elbow. Cut the metal connector off, remove the spring and insert a filter washer. There's your water filler.

I used to simply hold a hose at home (filtered well water) into the water port until the tank is full. Then I found a Camco clear 8" tube with valve that screws onto the garden hose and inserts into the port, which makes it easier. Sold at Camping World for around $5 or so.

I use the same spout on the hose to fill mine, it helps more air escape from the tank to fill it easier. Make sure u turn on your water pump to fill hot water as well, it takes 5-6 gallons also. I only have a 35 gallon water tank and need every drop for about 4 days.

Here is simple block diagram of the water tanks... Note the one way valves...

All you do is pour water down the FRESH WATER FILL port. Keep in mind that these items are CHEAP plastic (On mine at any rate) and resting the fill spout on the water tank fill port you are using to bring fresh water to the trailer migh break off the fill spout. My portable water tank is a 5-gal model and that gets pretty heavy for us old guys to hold up. I also bring along a two wheeled fold cart to tote these heavy portable water tanks and dirty water containers back and forth from the bath house where the fresh water is usually available.

If I am heading someplace that doesn't have threaded spigots, I fill up ahead of time. Of course I can add 90 gallons fresh water weight and my 3/4 ton truck doesn't care. If it's a long trip and you can't or don't want to fill up before, call the CG and ask if they have a threaded spigot somewhere on the property just for filling up. One of the state parks we go to in the spring only has a threaded spigot near the dumping station. All the rest in the loops are like drinking fountain with no hose connection.

When no threaded spouts are available you can purchase a fitting called a "water thief". It has a rubber end that stretches over the faucet and the other end has a hose connection. You can then attach your hose to this fitting. Got ours at Orchard supply hardware about 5 dollars. You can google it to see a pic. happy camping!
