Friction Hinge Door?

Good day all. I recently purchased a 20 33rbts. I came from a Forest River gray wolf. The doors on that trailer had friction hinges. Does anyone know if it's possible to get a door like this for a jayco? O honestly haven't looked into it but thought I'd start here first. Thanks for the info.

Some Jayco's come with the friction hinge door. Mine did, and I regret it every time there is a mild wind. There is no adjustment on these doors. I'm currently looking for a latch to install between the door and the trailer side.

We never had any problems with ours. My only complaint is I can't open the door all the way. The strut stops it at a 90° angle so i can't see beyond it, then the kitchen slide obstructs the view from the other side. You can't just poke your head out the door. Not a terribly big deal, but not ideal.

Our new Jay Feather has one, and I absolutely love it. All our previous rv's, trailers and motor homes had the shock type prop rod that I had to replace every few years. Never went on the road without an extra one for emergency repairs.
No big deal if I have to get some type of latch to secure door when opened.
Beats opening a door and having a gust of wind blow it from your hand and having the prop rod pull out from the door frame !!!

It is a "big deal" if your entrance door will not stay open in a light to moderate wind. Drilling into your trailer wall to install "some type of latch" seems like a modification that shouldn't have to be done. This isn't only Jayco, this is from several folks opinions from traveling last year. There is no positive way to latch this door open.

Several simple door hold open hardware under $10 bucks. I don't mind attaching to outside of the rig if it's functional and does the job of eliminating the problem.

Thank you for replying, Grumpaw. I just didn't like mounting a latch to rectify a door that won't stay open in a small wind. But it is what it is, so I'll be looking at a latch. Thanks!

I just bought a new trailer with a friction hinge door and it came from the factory with a hold-open bracket similar to the one in black in Grumpaw374 picture. Works great!

What Jayco did you buy that has a friction door hinge plus a latch? Very interested. Thanks

I bought my friction hinge from LCI. It’s not very expensive

Our 21 33 RBTS door came with a strut on it that causes the door open to 90 degrees. Not sure if that is a friction hinge. Not too thrilled about it but it could be worse. Still prefer a plain old hinge. I’ve learned that if it’s windy, you hold the door, you don’t let the door slam, and if the door is in the way of the awning, close it before you bring in the awning.

Friction hinge is just that.....works by applying friction to hold door at any angle. You have the old type strut...looks like a small shock. My new Jayco is the first rv I have had with a friction hinge, having always had the strut type.
Just my opinion...friction is far and away better than the strut ...

I bought 2022 Forest River Flagstaff Shamrock 233S hybrid trailer. Now that Jayco doesn't make hybrids anymore I didn't have much of a choice. I still have my Jayco trailer, a 2012 Jayfeather X23B hybrid. Plan to sell it in a month two when the weather is better here in Michigan.

I just put one on my 264bh an hour ago, I have the door holder as my trailer didn’t come with the friction hinges. However I only installed one friction hinge. 2 seemed like over kill and one does the job as all I need it for is so the door doesn’t swing open easily as it’ll still be attached to the rod when fully open. It took 2 minutes to install super easy.

M compartment doors stay open with two stong magnets. I put gas struts on the door and used one of the magnets for the entrance door.
