Front Cap Cleaning
Howdy,
Gave the TT its first bath this weekend. I had a couple of issues w/ cleaning the front fiberglass cap though, which I assume is gel coat.
1. There is some apparently tape adhesive on the top front of the cap. All this time I simply thought it was just a dirt spot, but it was actually dirt on top of adhesive. I couldn't get the adhesive off w/ the RV wash 'n wax stuff I was using. Any idea of what I can use to safely remove residual tape adhesive from this very shiny nice front cap without dulling or scratching the area?
2. The bug splats came off w/ a great deal of elbow grease. Any suggestions for material that would make this easier the next time, that won't dull the front cap? I did put 303 protectant on the cap after cleaning it up (except for the adhesive spot mentioned above).
Thanks,
Mike

We had a couple places on our unit this year while cleaning before storage. I used some Carb cleaner and Brake cleaner without any issues. I would just do a small test spot. Wash the spots where you use any solvent to remove any residual. Waxing the unit after cleaning will help with making it easier to clean next time.
Best regards,
Doug

3M Adhesive Remover.
Good stuff.
Safe on surfaces.
No garage should be without it.
Available at auto body shop supply stores and some auto parts stores.

Goo-Gone works pretty well as well as WD-40. (I'd wash well with soap after using either)

I use Thetfords bug cleaner to get sticky stuff off of the trailer. It works well. I then wash the area.

Be careful using Magic Eraser on gel coat. It is abrasive and will dull the surface. 3M Marine Fiberglass Restorer and Wax will do the same thing without dulling the surface.

I used Goof-Off to remove some stickers Jayco and the Dealer had placed on the trailer that I did not want to look at anymore.
As to remove the bugs, black streaks and other grim, I like a product called “ Spray Power”. No elbow grease required. I buy it from Menards for about $6.50/gal.

Goo-gone, 3M adhesive or WD-40 will all get the tape residue off with some elbow grease if you have it around. Once you get it all cleaned up I would put a good coat of wax in it. Wax will help the bugs come off next time with less effort. Usually the regular cleaning gets them off once you have a good base.

Great suggestions, thanks! I'll give WD-40 a try first. We use that on our shiny stainless steel fridge at home and works great to get fingerprints off. Have some Goo Gone, too.

Goo Gone, magic eraser, and a coat of wax works for me.
