Furnace won't stay on... please help!

Hello. I am trying to start furnace for first time this year but no luck. It sounds like it starts (at least the vent) and then shuts off 20 seconds later. I have propane tanks full and have turned on the stove, water heater and fridge. They all work just fine.

I have flipped the furnace swith on and off like 10 times already to flush air but nothing.

Help please!

My trailer is a jayco 2015 X17Z and furnace is Atwood.

.
Are you on battery or shore power? If the fan is not spinning fast enough the sail switch may not be closing.

I have tried both ways with battery and power. Same symptoms.

Atwood Furnace Issue

Hi
I have a Jayco 2016, have issues with furnace staying on. Have to lick switch several times, then starts. Blower comes on,throws heat. Shuts off bout 1 minute. Have to restart bye playing with switch again. . Tanks are full,no leaks. New board.
We’re should I begin to fix the problem:

The control board will flash some LEDs to say what the problem is.

If your sail switch is fine, it's most likely not sensing a flame. This could be either the flame rod is not igniting (can you hear the flame sound? Or just the high frequency sparks?), or it's not sensing that there is a flame.

I do a lot of logging roads and end up having to clean my flame rod every once in a while because dust gets in through the exhaust. Unfortunately on these units, it's an incredible pain to get to the flame rod... I'd recommend using a licensed gas fitter as you will be messing with pretty well every part of the furnace to get there.

We’re should I begin to fix the problem:

Make sure you disconnect all power before you lick switch. Safety first.
But hey, whatever works!

Wouldn’t one think there should be a recall.
Has anyone got ahold of Atwood or Jayco to see if there a solution?

How would one go about this, cause I would like to voice a concern.

Try clearing the sail switch.

It is most likely dust got into the sail switch. This happens all the time when I travel on dirt roads. I mostly blow some air into the vent and bang on the blower box (accessable via by removing the inside door cover). For safety, what happens if the switch cannot make contact the blower turns off after 20 seconds. You can tell the switch is working when you hear a click noise and the air slowely blows warm air as the unit heats up. The dust stops such contact. I now cover up the outside heater vent with tape before heading down any dirt roads.

does anyone have a owners manual online

I have been trying to find an exploded view (forgive the pun) of the heater. I am trying to get the air intake and exhaust cover off. I don't want to apply too much pressure. There is one slot on the bottom and the bottom right side. I don't know if I should put a screwdriver in there to release something or not.

the furnace is igniting and shutting off frequently.

thank you,
John

It depends on where your furnace is located. Some have an access panel on the outside with screws around the edge. They are the easiest ones to access. Some are located inside the camper which is a pain to access. Here is a pic of the control board which can get wet sometime and cause issues. Post a pic of your exhaust port and we can tell you.

The 2 ports are just pressure fit in the holes after removing the screws. You will most likely have to wiggle them back and forth to remove.

The thermostat is a switch. It connects 12 volts to the white wire for furnace and 12 to the yellow for ac.
If you have 12 volts from red to blue and connect red to white, the furnace should come on.

Furnace is out it is 16 degrees and no one to service it for a week. Nothing open to buy space heaters from and the rv park people won't answer their phone to see if they had some heaters to use until tomorrow. I thought camping was suppose to be fun not so far. Any help would help

The outside intake/exhaust port will be stuck to the side with butyl putty tape. Most likely unforgiving in the cold temps, but with the screws out, that's what's holding it on. Here's a bunch of exploded parts diagrams, not knowing the exact furnace model you have.
