Fuse between battery and converter?

What type of either breaker or fuse does Jayco use on it's trailers between the battery/batteries and the converter?

I see boxes and junctions on the front edge of the trailer chassis. Is this where the fuses/breakers are?

The fuse is "normally" spliced into the positive battery cable prior to the A-frame junction box. If it isn't obvious it may be hidden within the black plastic split-loom wire/cable protector that the positive cable runs through. The fuse may be a "blade" or "glass" in-line type.

On my Jayco trailer, there are two GREEN wires hanging outside the front junction box (on the cross frame behind the battery) with a little fuse socket on the wires. It was kinda hard to see until I moved some wires around.

On many trailers they use a number of auto-resettable "can" type fuses which are typically located near the batteries. They're shaped like a matchbox, but slightly larger, have a rubber cover and screw-type terminals. They're used for higher current DC circuits (usually those >25 amps)---particularly those circuits that exceed the DC current capability of OEM power centers (i.e., electric stabilizer jacks).

Our 2017 Jayco QBW just got recall about that very thing. There is a fuse between the battery and converter. In the recall if you remove the fuse everything still works. At least there is a recall

Kayco53,

I believe the recall is addressing the "lack" of any overcurrent protection (fuse, circuit breaker, etc.), not an issue with an existing fused connection. The Jayco recall applies to specific 2016-2018 Jay Flight SLX models only.

Please advise if my interpretation is incorrect.

Replaced fuse with circuit breaker. Note color of wires

Here is a photo of a breaker I installed so I didn't have to deal with the fuse issue. Note the color of the wires. The Jayco fuse was installed with these green wires and was located on the trailer frame under the front cap.

The issue was that Jayco installed a fuse but installed it in the wrong location on many units. They installed the fuse between the vehicle charge line and the battery positive, instead of between the battery positive and the inverter.

That was the reason all the lights remained ON after the fuse was remove on some units.

A marine style, 30 amp breaker with rubber cover was used to install between the battery and inverter which now protects the wiring from the battery in case of a dead short.

I apologize for this being a little off topic. I knew someone who installed some type of a master breaker on their trailer battery. Guess they got tired of replacing expensive fuses. Anyway, he told me it was ok to run the electric brakes breakaway wire thru the same breaker.

I always thought that wire wasn't supposed to have any sort of fuse in it by law. Or is that a state by state thing? Maybe the dealer hooks it up the way each states requires? I do know that wire on my last trailer went straight to the positive terminal and was not fused.

You don't run the brakes thru any fuse or disconnect. There are 2 wires going to the battery positive, 3 if you have an electric jack.

1 to Jack
1 to Breakaway
1 to Converter box

Only the one to the converter box should be fused. All the fuse does is keep from burning the RV down if the converter or wire shorts out between the battery and converter. Like in the frame somewhere.

Generally, there is already a fuse in the wire going to the electric jack as well, at least mine does. It's part of the hot wire going to the jack.

On the Jayco recall, its better to let them take care of any possible issues and make it part of the record/file in case something happens later. Big pain for some. We had a hurricane in August and there is an 8 month wait to do ANY rv repair work around here.

My 2018 24RBS has a blade style fuse located along the A-frame cross member:

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Just bought my first TT and had no juice from the battery to the cabin. Had a friend who works on TT's said it was the circuit breaker or fuse, but couldn't find it right away. Found this thread with a picture and to follow positive wire from battery.
Went out and found it in 10 seconds - fuse was broken - replaced - and WhaLAA everything works. Great forum.

I made a schematic of the J box for my 2019, 212 QBW Jayco. A 50 Amp fuse is used between the battery and the converter for my trailer. It is mounted on the frame.

On my trailer (28BHSW) this fuse seems to be between the TT and the Tow vehicle AUX power (from 7-pin). It is not between the battery and the trailer panel. Rustic Eagle, you might want to double-check yours.
