I'd go a high as my HOA would allow. Well, not exactly, because I'd never live in such a situation. Building codes are bad enough. I live on several acres in a rural part of an already rural county with a total population of about 20k, yet I have to have a permit to build a shed over 10x12. Back east I lived on less than a quarter acre in a densely populated county and was allowed 150 square feet without a permit. Point is, government is bad enough, I don't need my neighbors telling me how to live. We have to put up with idiots once in a while and it's best to smile and walk away. But have them run my home? No thanks. Don't know where all these HOAs came from, we seemed to do just fine without them my first 40 or 50 years. End of rant.
