Generator or Inverter?
What if I only want yo hook up the small window style ac in my TravelTrailer?
Do I need a fancy unit?
Whichone would be best?

How close to others will you be camping?
An inverter generator is nice an quiet compared to a construction grade generator. If you do not have anyone near you, say within say 1000 ft a non inverter generator will work.
But if you plug in the TT, into the generator, then the AC into the TT you will have dirty power going to all the systems, such as the radio, refrigerator, phone charges, etc. Modern electronics do not like dirty power.
Personally, if you want something in the middle price range, you can buy a Champion Invertor generator.
Last weekend we were camping, there where two TT's with generators. One had a Honda 2000i, you could only just tell it was on at 75 feet. In another loop there was a cheap construction generator you could hear roaring at 500+ feet. State Park rangers, said they had lots of complaints about the one generator, and their was nothing they could do, per their generator policy.

As mentioned get an Generator/Inverter special if you use electronics and you want your neighbor to love you when camping besides each other.
With an window AC a 2000 watt Generator/Inverter is plenty.

So I could basically get a generator inverter and only plug in the air conditioning and that should be fine?

Would not buy more generator than you need. We camped last week bought a Champion 3500 watt inverter generator. Wanted remote start. Remote worked great I was surprised the the difference in its 59db rating over our 57db 2000 Honda.Noticeably louder when running 15000 ac unit. i guess everything seems noisy in the forest lol!

So to keep it safe, lol, unplug the microwave from the outlet and no one will make. Mistake,,, but wait someone said the inverter is dirty energy? Whats that all about? Will it damage things?

An Generator/Inverter produces cleaner power than a contractor type generator.

An inverter provides a sine wave similar to what you get at the plug in your home. It's clean and specifically designed to work with electronics. That's as opposed to a normal (contractor style) generator which is designed to work with power tools (table saws and like) which are less susceptible to voltage spikes and "dirty" (squared sine wave) that electronics (televisions, microwaves, AC, computers, AC voltage phone chargers, etc).

Actually...
A generator is less efficient for may personal uses because it is designed to run for long periods of time under more constant loads. They produce good clean reliable AC power with a true sine wave but use more fuel and are noisier.
An invertor generator actually produces DC power and automatically adjusts output based on the connected load. This allows it be more energy efficient and quieter with partial loading, smaller loads and variable loads. The invertor part of the invertor generator changes the DC power to "AC" in a synthetic sine wave. It is important to get a true sine wave inverter because the sine wave is stepped on a poorer quality inverter and is hard on solid state devices such as your LED lights and electronics. A true sine wave inverter closely mimics a real AC sign wave and won't kill your sensitive devices that may be connected to it.

How do I know if one is a true sine ?
Like tbis one for example just to run a/c at night?

That's the type you want to buy, just look if the name "Inverter" is listed on a decal.

Reliable record, excellent warranty, and great customer support.
I use a dual fuel (gas/LP)( https://www.championpowerequipment.c...fuel-inverter/). 2 outlets (15 amp house type) plus 30 amp RV plug type, 12 v DC w/usb adapter. Easy to change oil, has handle and 2 wheels for easy movement, weights about 95lbs and, at 67, I can roll it out to the TV or pickup. I had get it into the pickup myself, lock it down and run it.
I normally run on LP so I don't have to worry about old gas (but have the ability to use gas, I use non-ethanol gas if LP isn't available) and makes storage a dream. Runs the AC and I have used it at the same time with the microwave.
You can also use a 2KW (or pair using a Paralink kit).
Disclaimer: I have no connection with Champion other than having used their inverters for boondocking and during a few power failures including during Hurricane Irma. I've found them to reliable and beat Honda in price, warranty/service. A friend who runs the service center for a large Honda store that sells and warranties service for Honda generators prefers and personally owns Champion. He said Champion's service and support beat Honda hands down. I agree with him.
