Generator size to run a/c

I am trying to find out what size generator I need to run the a/c in my 2017 Jayco jayflight 264BHW. The manual for the a/c says it is an AIRXCEL 48000 series but give no info on size (13,500 btu / 15,000btu ? ) aprox. starting watts or aprox. running watts. I have googled the model number and all but to no avail. Any ideas out there ? thanks

You'll want to go 2800W or more, and it's worth noting to purchase an inverter generator as opposed to the cheaper contractor style generators.

I'm not saying this is the best idea, but in my old Trail Cruiser I was able to run my 13,500 btu unit with my Honda EU2000. We experienced a power outage and it was nasty hot out, so I threw that on my camper and we hung out in the camper till power came back on. I had the TV on and it would shut off when the a/c compressor cycled on. That might not have been an issue with a hard start kit but it was sort of a spur of the moment thing.

Here you go, a recommendation from the horse's mouth, 4000 watts (starting)

Most of my friends use a 3kw or larger for a 15000btu unit and that limits other power draw. I think I would want a 4kw if I could lift it.

Or 2- 2000i's coupled together. We never boondock in warm weather , until this last night in the rest area. My 2kw honda will run everything I want in cold weather so that's what I carry.

If you do couple the 2000i's, you need to turn the eco off when you turn a/c on and when the compressor kicks on. Generator doesn't react quick enough and will do an overload and shut off....from experience.

I have a 264BHW with a coleman 13,500 a/c and this weekend we were out in the HEAT. Friday was bad. I have a new honda EU30001. It ran my a/c all weekend without any problem. I was even using an electric dutch oven cooking beans and it never hesitated once.

I went with the 30001 instead of the handi because of the gas tank size. Filling every 5-6 hours got old with the champions.

Put in a Micro-Air Easy Start on the AC and you will have no problems running 2- 2000 generators on parallel in ECO mode.
I run my 15K AC with 1 2000 watt Yamaha generator in eco mode.

I too was very concerned what size generator to get for my 2017 Jayco North Point 377RLBH. It has two 15K Coleman Mach a/c's on top. Wasn't quite sure if they had the so-called hard start capacitors installed, so I checked with Coleman and they told me yes. So I went with a Champion 3100w Inverter, and sure enough, it can start my main a/c, along with feeding power to the 23 cf residential fridge and lights. If you have a 15K a/c, just be sure to turn on the fan first and let it run for 10 seconds to stabilize, then switch a/c on. After a few minutes, I can switch to eco and it still keeps up, running the fridge, a/c, several LED lights. Don't expect to run the microwave w/AC. Just one or the other. It starts first pull every time. Just make sure you have gas on, choke out, pwr ON and pull...then push in choke.

I bought mine on eBay this past Feb for $599 refurbished w/free shipping. I just checked and the same seller has 10 more available right now for $539 w/free shipping!

This is a great buy! You won't find this much power for this price with an Inverter. I believe mine to have had 0 hours as there were no fingerprints inside or anywhere as he had a large stock and stated all had <20 hrs. It looked totally new inside original box. This is the only generator I've found online to actually have the running watts printed instead of starting watts. Factory told me they were made for Costco, and that's what they went with. This model has parallel capability and has rubber outlet covers, while some models do not.

We have a 15,000btu Colman Max that runs fine on my Honda 2000 as long as I turn everything else off. It will not run my sons Dometic 13,500, immediately goes into overload.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the info, but seems odd. By chance does the Coleman have a soft start capacitor and the Dometic doesn't?

Don't know for sure, guess I'll go through the owners manual and see if there is any reference to that.
