Generators

Hello out there, what size generators do you guys reccomend? Also how much fuel do you carry with you? I am sure it is different if you have no shore power. Or you are boondocking. Thanks, Rick

Honda 2000. Has enough juice to do the only important thing in the camper......the coffee pot. Won't run the a/c but I got coffee. Did I mention the coffee maker.....

The 2000 watt generator. It's only slightly more than the 1000 watt and you can always get a second and parallel them for 4k - enough to run the air. Bring enough fuel with me for a couple days use. I don't run our all day every day though. Just a couple hours here and there. That also changes depending on how far I am from a gas station.

We use batteries for coffee and generator is solely for air conditioning and recharging batteries. Yamaha inverter type - 3000 Watt

I Parallel two 2000watt Honda generators. 4000watts run a/c and other utilities. Works well. These Honda generators weight about 50lbs. each. I can lift them in and out of truck. Noise level is the lowest I could find. Don't run them all day. Fuel burn varies, carry enough for a couple of days.

We carry a Honda 3000 on the rack of our FW that stays there all the time when we expect to need AC. We also carry a*Champion 2000 for a backup and when all we want to do is charge the batteries and make coffee.

Two Yamahas here. About the same as 2 Hondas and similar prices.

We're "driveway camping" while are home is in renovation.... Yesterday was the end of the fourth week (thank you mechanical contractor). Have been running parallel Honda 2000 almost continually since our weather just cooled off today. Pretty much 24/7.....have been more than happy with their performance.... Dependable beyond words.

We just got the Champion 3100 & love it. It runs everything including A/C and is pretty good on fuel & a lot quieter than we thought it would be.. Very happy.
I had a Yamaha 3000 before this unit but it was twice the weight & not as powerful.

I too run Honda 2000s. 1 Honda 2000 will run everything in my 25BHS except the AC...and then just parallel the other and everything is good. Nice and quiet!

Fuel wise...I'll find out in a couple week when I take them out boon docking 5 days. I expect they should burn about 5 gal total but that is not running them full time. Run them here and there to charge battery and such. It'll be cool enough not to need AC too.

Make one of these. I made one and run around 20 hours non stop with ac running.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-GENERA...item19f193b941

Or this and run each gen on its on gas can. About two days running.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/EXTENDED-FUE...57694952&rt=nc

The generator will suck the gas into its tank.

I have a champion 4000 watt 3500watt running generator and we can run everything at once, except for the ac which can only run if everything is shut down except for the interior lights, radio and tv can still operate with the ac, but no mirowave, refer (must be placed on gas). $319 at camping world..

For that price I would guess it is not a inverter type? I was thinking of picking up a non-inverter type for the house. good price for the wattage.

I have a built in generator on my 5'er, but when I was working on decisions for full timing a few years ago I gave a lot of thought on whether a 5'er of a TT. During this process I thought about generators a lot. I had pretty much decided on a 3500-4000 watt Honda or Yamaha because of their sound level operation and overall quality. At this point I would only consider two smaller ones and a parallel cable. You never know when you are going to develop back problems or other issues that will prevent you from handling a larger single generator. Just something else to think about.

I am leaving Road Atlanta this morning after boondocking here for the past 5 days. I ran my generator for 35 hours on approx 15 gallons of gas. I say approx because the last 5 gallons is running right now. Coffee time you know.

We have a Champion 3100 Inverter Gen, we only dry camp a few times a year so the Inverter spends most of it's life under a table in the shop. I just couldn't justify 3 or 4 grand for something that sat 350 days a year.

We have been very happy with the 3100 it has run everything we need by paying attention and managing the systems and with it being about $900 the price can't be beat.

Two Champion 2000 with parallel kit. As quiet as a Honda for less money, light enough for an old guy to easily move around. Runs everything!
