Got lucky - tree fell inches from trailer

Got pretty lucky yesterday. There was a severe ice storm in Southern Ontario over the weekend and significant ice accumulation, combined with heavy winds and wet snow resulted in many downed trees.

My trailer is parked in the corner of my property surrounded by 30+ foot spruce trees. They are all very healthy, beautiful trees providing good privacy and a gorgeous backdrop.

I went out yesterday morning to find one of them had snapped in half, and the top half came crashing down, landing less than a foot beside my Jayco! I quickly got up on the roof and started going over the trailer in detail, looking for damage. The only thing I found was a cracked top corner marker light (orange) which I quickly bought a new lense at the dealer for $4.

I looked back on my security cameras and sure enough, I found the video of it falling! The very top of the tree grazed the top corner of the trailer, cracking the light, but missing the body of the trailer by inches. The broken piece is so heavy I can't even drag it myself, likely 15+ feet long. The roof and everything else had a good 3 inches of ice and snow on it so there is no damage to the rubber roof that I could see. Gutter spouts are fine, gutters aren't bent, I think I'm ok.

All this after my first trailer was written off by Alberta hail. Frig's sakes.

Congratulations on the near miss. Our TV went down. Could have been worse for you. Glad it is OK.

Luckier than me, I had the top of a tree go through mine last November! Just got it back last week with a brand new roof though.

Ok, this is getting damn ridiculous here in Ontario ...... can someone please tell Mother Nature it's April, not November. Sunday morning was not Spring thats for damn sure, even this morning, i heard the rain, than by the time i left for work, snow/ice covered the car. No trees around the RV, but hail is always a threat to the aluminum exterior!

This is literally the worst winter I have ever been though, and that's after a lousy, wet, cool summer. It's ridiculous. We just drove home in freezing drizzle and I'm having to 4X4 my way around in my own driveway. Already burned through 10 cords of wood and had to go get some more yesterday because I've been burning since mid October!

Glad you dodged that one. Hope you can cut the top of the tree and save it too.

I figured it was as good as gone. You're saying a snapped tree can be saved?
