We have 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the standard 3.6L engine. We have towed our 195RB that weighs about 3,500 loaded for about 10,000 miles including Florida to Illinois to Denver and the Rockies. Mileage drops to 10 to 14 average but the engine does it. We intend to replace it with newer one with the V8 to enhance merging and passing.
One proviso is a good hitch. We have the Andersen hitch and it is way better for sway control and does fine for keeping the front wheels steady on the road. Our prior bar type hitch was harder to put on/off and did nothing for stopping sway.
Second is to watch transmission and oil temps. If either goes to high than you will need an oil cooler or trans cooler added.
Your frame and engine will do fine but a tow package would be great idea.
