gray and black water tanks. between trips treatment

Before leaving a full hookup campsite I use a flush king to wash the black tank as clean as I can.

If have to use a dump station I add water to the black tank until I am at least 1/3 - 2/3 full then empty and then I pour 2 Gallons of water down the toilet as a final rinse.

when we get to a camp site we add chemicals to the black tank. but when you press that peddle to pour the chemicals in, it has a rips smell to it.

between trips should we add something to the empty tanks
gray and black water tanks.

Thanks

You didn't mention this...
Having a fan blowing air out of the RV will pull air in through the septic system, sewer hose, and black tank.

A black or grey tank you never get 100% clean, doesn't make sense to waist all that water. Everything what is wet will stick to the walls. A fully dried tank would loose much easier debris. I never have odors by using the correct amount of chemicals. Let to tanks do what they are supposed to do.

Don't wait to add chemicals to the black tank until you get to your next campsite. After you dump at the dump station add a gallon or two of water and the chemicals (we use the blue packets). Let that slosh around as you travel and as long as the black tank vent isn't blocked you shouldn't get a blast of bad odor when you flush.
