H20 Heater bypass

Am still learning about our 2013 26RLS.

Can someone tell me where the water heater bypass valve is located so that I can make sure it is in the correct position before I turn on the water heater and burn out the element?

It is behind the panel under fridge. There is a schematic on the heater.

I took the panel off and there it was. But, there was no schematic for valving. Just one for the electrical.

Really? My camper isn't here so I can't look but I thought I saw one for the valves on the upper portion of the insulation. I could be wrong, it won't be the first time. :-).

I know there was one in the book for my old camper but I have not gotten that far into it with this one.

As usual there is no schematic in the book. Jayco and all others could go a long way if they supplied specifics with their units. Its OK to have the general book, but they should supply the necessary materials and drawings that are specific to each type of trailer.

I like the forum very much and don't mind asking questions as everyone has been been nice about it, but their instructions could be 100% better.

My new Tundra has an ooners manual that leaves nothing to doubt. Camper manufacturers could take a lesson from them.

It will be on the back of the water heater or in the utility compartment if your rig has one.

If your heater has three valves shown on the back of it this is how the are suppose to placed. NOTE the valves are elongated and this will show they are passing water or have it blocked.

Let me look some more on google images to see if I can find a two valve diagram for you.. Im not having any luck finding a clear view of a two valve water by-pass...

Looks to me like the diagrams are right. However, the picture of the valves on the back of the water heater itself show hot and cold water mixing. Shouldn't the valve in the middle be closed? Great pictures too by the way.

Joe - I noticed that too. These came from google images. I don't think it is a camera angle - looks like it is also opened haha... Yes the middle one should be closed like the schematic shows...

Roger that! It is a dis-service to owners not to know where the essential devices are and how to use them. Could probably get it all on one page.

IF the handle follows the direction the pipe runs it is open if it is crosswise to the pipe it is closed.. when setting to bypass close off the two that lead into the tank and open the the one that runs between the pipes... and remember to reverse that in the spring...

Yes, Jayco makes some awesome trailers, but the owner's manuals are way too general. Are you listening to us, Jayco ???? My book generally covers the Designer series, both TTs and 5ers. So you can guess how specific it gets when you really need to know something. Most of the time it tells you generically what MIGHT be on your unit, and please refer to the specific manufacturer's instruction book for details. Which is always buried in a large pile of paperwork in the packet. But I guess the other brands are probably not any better. And life goes on . . . . .

I agree that the manuals could be a bit more specific. Possibly an addendum for a model line. Eagle, JayFlight, etc.

One of the 'selling points' in the specs is that the by-pass IS installed.

I was told at the walk thru that the by-pass on my '11 25 RKS is under the counter, and a drawer or two needs to be removed to reach it. I'll be finding out soon, last trip ended yesterday.

After a VERY LONG HUNT, the water heater bypass on a 2012 30.5RLS is under the fridge behind the air intake for the furnace. Would a sticker in each unit from Jayco be so friggin hard?!??!???
