Hard Wired Surge Protector
I was thinking of getting a hard wired surge protector for my 26BH.
Called my local Jayco dealer and was told the protector itself is $300 bucks but the install is 1 to 4 hours with no guarantee on the time.
Does anyone have any experience with how long it should take? At $100 bucks an hour it makes a big difference whether its one or 4 hours.

If it's going to be installed close to where your shore power comes in, it's a 1 hr DIY job. Mine took a little longer because I put it in with interlocking 30A plugs so it could be removed if necessary. It may fit in the box that used to house the power cord when it was pushed in and if so, that's really convenient.
Check online for the surge protector. It will be cheaper and no sales tax.

I installed mine near the elect panel. From the basement removing the walls gave me pretty good access. Had to buy a 6' section of 6# wire which is a bear to work with. Install was 3-ish hours but worth my time. Make sure you like the unit the quoted for $300. I negotiated slide toppers with the new 5th and didn't think to ask what they were installing. Low end Carefree which is OK but if I'd thought ahead I'd pushed for a higher grade and even paid extra if needed.

Lawrence RV sells the Progressive Industries 30A EMS with remote display for $249. If you aren't in Texas, you'll pay shipping but no sales tax. Even with paying Texas sales tax, they were still the cheapest I found on line.

I installed a Progressive EMS in my 26BH. It's wired under the fridge, behind the power distribution panel. It took me about 1-1.5 hours to install. I had to label and remove some of the wiring off of the 12v fuse outputs to get the panel out of the way but it's not a hard install. The wiring was fairly easy but getting under there with a cordless drill took a little effort. I got the unit with an external display and mounted it to the inside lower sink door.

My TT unit is still under warranty. Will installing the unit by myself void the warranty ?

They SHOULD pin a medal on you.... but I would write JAYCO and ask. It may come back to having and authorized dealer perform the work.

I would think it would be like any other mod while under warranty. If said mod caused a problem with anything else then probably not covered. Example while wiring in surge protector you had to remove existing wiring and failed to reinstall existing wiring correctly and that caused a failure. Then failure would be on you. If you can access the area to install it then i believe i would do it myself. Just my 0.02

The only way it will void your warranty is if they PROVE that what you did caused the failure of the part.. eg they can't say a wheel falling off was because of your wiring..

I didn't consider the warranty when installing my EMS. My dealer suggested it but wanted a heafy price for the EMS and the install. To me, the EMS is cheaper insurance than repairing or replacing a mircowave, radio, television, etc that could be damaged in the event of an electrical anomaly.
