Hardwood Floors Question...

My wife hates carpeting especially in our TT so I stopped at our local RV dealer and asked what it would cost to install hardwood floors is our 26' trailer. He thought a minute or two and stated between $1500 & $2000 plus I had to supply the flooring. I mentioned that the new flooring could just go around the bed pedestal and into the living area. The couch and table could be removed and left out as we want to replace them so this would leave only about a total of 12 to 14 feet of area to install the new flooring. He stuck to his original estimate so I thanked him and left.

Can anyone tell me if this is about the correct price to install hardwood in this small an area? I realize the slide may have to be removed but what I've seen on some RV repair shows on the tube this really isn't a big deal.

Any input would be appreciated.

You could do laminate, easy to cut and I think doing a camper would be pretty much straight cuts.

Or you could do vinyl sheets and cut with a razor.

That quote sounds pretty expensive. Average cost to install hardwood is $8 sqft plus materials. Now if a slide needs to be removed that will add some cost, maybe a job for a smaller RV repair shop. The dealers shoot a very high price because they don't want to do it unless you want to pay big money, and they probably sub out the job.

I would look into vinyl planks - we are doing that in our house - they have some nice stuff these days that looks just like wood, resists water and temperature changes, and you can install it yourself.

Too expensive, and too heavy. If you're cool with the weight, this is an easy DIY job. I'd go with laminate like someone else mentioned.

I'd consider vinyl wood planks. You can drop them in the tub overnight and not be affected. That's what I'm going to replace my laminate wood planks with. The dog water spilled while we were away and now we have puffy joints in that area. They run about $40-$50 per box and there's about 20 sq ft per box. I need about 60 sq ft. So redoing the part of the floor that planks would be about $150 for the planks. They click together and cut with a utility knife.

Consider LVT- Luxury Vinyl Tile. I helped my son do most of his house. Easy to install.

We use Allure vinyl planks from Home Depot in our first motor home. I hated the old used carpet. It looked really great and was inexpensive. My husband installed it. Then he stained quarter round and trimmed out the edges. Our MH was the go to spot with all the our friends kids when we camped. Plenty of spills, traffic and dirt plus our traveling golden retriever and it looked the same when we traded it 3 yrs later. I dont rememer the price but I am sure it was less than $500.

Installing hardwood would not be a good idea. I'm a flooring sales Rep and I specialize in hardwood flooring. It is very important to maintain temperature and humidity between 65 and 75 F, and 35% to 55% relative humidity. This would be very difficult unless you were parked in one spot and always plugged in.

Look at floating lock together luxury vinyl plank. It will flex during weather changes.
