HD TV Antenna

We just purchased a 2020 Jayco Flight. I’m a newbie, the dealer gave us a not so through walk thru at delivery. I remember from friends TT you had to crank the antenna up then could rotate it for better reception. My antenna looks fixed with no crank. It this the newest technology. I get minimal channels where my neighbors with adjustable antenna get lots oh channels.

Did you turn the power booster on? There is a little button on the panel where the antenna cable goes into. Push it and a green light will turn on. Then rescan for channels.

Doc - I found it. Never would have, that’s for suggestion. Here’s photo of the button next to white coax cable. Thanks again

Besides making sure the booster (green light) is on when using it, make sure the antenna is pointed the right direction to pick up signals before doing the channel scan.

I use https://www.antennaweb.org/ , and enter my zip code to get a listing and of transmitters and direction to point the antenna. Sometimes a handheld compass comes in handy to determine how your sitting, and which way to aim the antenna.

Thanks for suggestion. But the antenna on the 2020 is fixed. No crank inside and no way to manually raise and orientation on roof. Seems like a dumb installation. I’m sure cheaper option for Jayco than a raisable crank with ability to orient antenna.

Are you sure it's fixed. I don't believe they install the crank up antennas anymore, but they do install the "bat wing" version, that is directional.

Take a close look at the knob on your ceiling to see if there is a push in button and a arrow on the handle. If so, if you push in that button, you can rotate the antenna the direction you want.

My antenna is also fixed and I get 1080p signals where ever there is over the air TV. It is also used for the AM/FM radio and has great reception. No more worry about driving down the road with the bat wings flapping in the wind.

MikeB,
That’s what mine looks like on our 2020 Jay Flight. It did work during our PDI but since I haven’t been able to pick up any channels, My switch looks a little different than yours but still no channels.

It is a Steiner Enterprises Layfayette Antenna, we have the same one on a 2020 Jay Feather. Have tightend connections and it did help. Not overly impressed with it so far but then again we do not watch TV that much.

You are welcome. I called Jayco and asked about the antenna and they thought they had a Wingard but after further checking told me what the brand was and all not a ton of information on it seems like a company that builds stuff for RV industry and not a ton of information on their stuff.

I have the same antenna as the OP. There are several of us camping together at a state park. 3 campsites side by side. One friend has a “batwing” without the wingman, one has a round Omni directional, a nice one, can’t remember the brand. Both of them get more channels than I do. To be fair, the “point” of the shark fin is pointing at the towers. (At least in that general direction). Both have about 2 feet taller than my antenna is too. One because it’s on a toyhauler, and the other one cranks up. The radio works better than my other camper. Jay

1st time out in the 2021 267bhs and no channels at all with the omni-directional shark fin (amp button pushed). My buddy next site over and in more trees had 46 channels. Talked to dealer when we got back and he hands me a new antenna and a tube of goo and says the company knows about the bad antennas and swaps them with a "fixed" one when complaints are waged.

What kind of antenna did dealer give you to swap out?

No discernable makers mark on shark fin. Just the label.

So did the dealer give you the shark fin to replace your existing shark fin? Thanks

Sure did and a tube of caulk to seal it up. Going to try to install this weekend. Hoping for a few channels at least.
