Heat

Hello! We just purchased our 2015 Jay Feather X213. I have a question about the heating system. When we took our trailer to get inspection guy he said we can run the heat based solely on the electric when we are hooked up. We’ve had this trailer for about a week now and are very new to RVs so we’re not really sure what we’re doing here. We turned the heat on last night and when we came in this morning it was blowing ice cold air it was only hooked up to the electric. My thought was that it had to be run off of the propane in order to get heat but my husband is going by what the RV guy said that we can run it only off electric. Need some guidance please!!! It an Atwood hydro flame furnace. TIA

Yes your furnace requires propane to heat. When you turn on your propane tank, do it slowly.

You may have two ways of getting heat.

1st. is the standard propane furnace.

2nd. is your air conditioner may have an electric heat strip built into it. If it does have a heat strip than you may have to figure out how to run the thermostat that operates the AC and change it to heat. I don't have one so I am no help there. Maybe an X213 owner can chime in and explain how to check for an electric heat strip and how to make it work.

X2,

I added the electric heat strip to my AC unit. If the heat option was added, the left control nob, will have a position call "heat low" this is heat mode, low fan speed. Set the right nob to red. It takes a few minutes for you to notice any warmth. There is a lot of air movement, so it does not feel hot, but it is 6000 btu, and does a decent job keeping our htt warm. We also carry a small 1500 watt ceramic electric heater.

The furnace does require propane. Pending on the outside temps, you may consume a 20 pound tank in a couple days.
