When the heat turns on it comes out through the lower vents as expected. But the fan in the air conditioner unit runs also which is cooler. Is this supposed to happen and why? It is so loud. Can it be disabled?

Are you using the elec heat setting?

If you have a heat pump the furnace and heat pump run together if there is a 5 degree difference between what you set the thermostat for and the actual temp. If the outside temp is below 38/40 the fan in the heat pump will still come on with the furnace as well.

If you don't want the heat-pump put the thermostat on just heat.
