Heater won’t start

Our gas heater won’t start. Tried switching it off for a minuet and on again to see if gas would get to heater. But nothing happened. We are staying at our sons house but are needing to stay in the camper to make room when our other son and family arrive in 4 days. We have an elected heater but it is not sufficient enough. Hope someone can help us. Thanks Nancy

When was the last time you used it? Was it functioning correctly? If it’s been a while, maybe spiders/mud daubers have blocked the gas tube.

Did you check propane tanks are full?

Have you checked breakers/reset button?

What kind of trailer. Had the same problem with my Jayco 27RL. First thing is we have a Dometic Thermostat. If you have the same try the A/C if that works then it could be the sail switch or the limit switch. If you have a outside door you shoutl be able to open that up and change both items. If not then you have to take the furnance out on the inside of the trailer. Look on internet about changing both switches, not that hard. Harder to pull out furance and put back in. Also check what Tom said

By not working do you mean absolutely nothing happens when you turn up the wall thermostat or does it blow without heating?

If it does nothing, I would first check the fuse in the fuse panel. The normal sequence of furnace operation is:

1. 12 volt power constant at furnace.
2. 12 volt signal from thermostat to turn on.
3. Blower motor starts up.
4. "Sail switch" inside furnace detects air movement and initiates burner.

If the blower motor is stuck or the fuse blown or the thermostat not sending the 12 volt turn on signal to the furnace, it will just sit there fat, dumb, and happy.

What tt do you have? Can you describe what is happening?

Kots of possibilities without knowing the symptoms, and we could send you on a wild goose case, with suggestions.

3-4 most common issues. Exhaust port is plugged, sail switch has failed, blow 12 volt fuse, board error.

If there is nothing, when you try to turn it on, try the 12 volt fuse.

Next remove the cold air return cover. There is a reset switch try it.

I doubt this time a year, your exhaust port is plugged, but look in with a flashlight.

If it wants to start up, but fails it could be the sail switch. To clean it or for replacement, usually you need to remove the furnace.

Another thing to check is your thermostat.

Best of lucky
